Aston Villa - Genuine Contenders?

Outstanding results and performances to be fair, a title challenge MIGHT be just a wee bit beyond Villa ATM but who knows?

Top 4 would not be a surprise at all

OP.. no they are not!

Tell me why not?

Let's see end of jan...after the trudge of games and injuries have taken their toll.

tahts why they will make a couple of signings, they have had some injuries and come through it, but have been lucky its not been the better players

That could be said for any of the top teams ATM though? Of course the others have more experience of being "up" there and Villa very well might drop a bit but atm there isn't much about them that isn't going well?

You might be bang on, time will tell

City..liverpool..have the squad, knowhow and done it b4. Asking villa to finish above 1 of those this season is big...above both....extremely unlikely.

Villa could win it if the points tally is somewhere near the 80 points tally and that is looking possible however I reckon City will motor on in the new year and get their 4 in a row

Oh if pushed I agree, I feel a title win might be beyond them, not impossible but yes maybe a step to far?

I do however feel they can get top 4 but it's a lottery or I'd remortgage my house and bet it all on a top 4

posted on 10/12/23

Kinda have to be considered so at the moment but unlikely to sustain that.

Top four is defo on though and a real good chance of taking it.

They definatley have a better squad than Utd, Spurs and Newcastle and have the finances to compete

January will be interesting. Should make investments to consolidate a great opportunity

posted on 10/12/23

If they invest in jan, properly...like £150-200M...WOW.
now that would be a statement, Howe its rare in January ad the prices a way over priced.

I see villa between 4-6 now though

They have made some really good signings and can see a couple of good players coming in at least

I was a bit surprised at how Villas finances are, read an article recently and hadn't thought they were so fiscally good?

Some very clever people at the top

that's the impression I got, good, longer term management if the non football side had helped the team, of course the manager and players have a lot to do with that as well but when the clubs run well it can filter down

The Grealish transfer was a massive shot in the arm for Villa.

Only thing that stopped them from doing an Everton.

Probably not - Spurs were contenders a few weeks ago. Who knows though

We've got 2 great owners that know what the want and how to go about it. Very rich and very smart. We've spent but not insane amounts and the sale of Grealish was a masterstroke. We're a better more balanced team without him and we don't miss him.

Brining in Unai was a genius appointment. A proven winner, underrated especially in the PL. A Europe monster and he loves his Villa's.

Finishing above Arsenal should be the goal. I'd love Emry to do that after he was wrongly sacked by them.

Easily the 3rd best manager in the league.

I lived in Solihull for about 7 years aged 5-12. Villa were the local big team all my friends supported, so do like to see them doing well.

It's easy to say he was wrongly sacked with hindsight, but we looked awful and weren't picking up points. I think both parties learned from it and came back stronger.

Great home side but only won 3 of 8 away games and Liverpool and an injury ravaged Spurs are the only tough away games they have played this season. They remind me of last seasons Newcastle side, they will finish top 4 and are very good, but no chance of the title, they are not winning at the Emirates, Etihad even Old toilet

After the debacle of Steven Gerrard, I never thought they could be in this position so soon

wdym this is clearly living off the back of Gerrards good work.

Same can be said for Artera in the early days.
