I do like when people use exceptions to the rule to make points. If you dont score you dont get points.
……
Well, that one is not true is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Check the scoring records of the last 40+ seasons. When the highest you can do is 1 point (if you are lucky) you'll definitely win nothing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With United it's weird too in that people (quite rightly) point out that we aren't great defensively but our attacking record has been atrocious for a long time and gets worse by the year

It’s absolutely criminal that we’ve ended up with the attacking options that we have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I just think in general, it's the weakest United squad I've seen in my lifetime of following football. Admittedly, I've been spoilt as started following football in '94 but I just don't think we have a very talented squad.
That doesn't excuse performances like the Bournemouth one yesterday, but I think even if we were performing at our peak, we're still miles off City, Liverpool and Arsenal. And when you couple that with a group of players who lack the work ethic of the afore mentioned trio, you end up with 7 defeats in 16 league games
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The squad we had in Van Gaal’s second season probably rivals it. But even then, that squad probably had more goals, and we only scored 49 in the league that year.

I think we went 10 consecutive home games without scoring a first half goal at one point. And only conceded one 😂. Was literally the most horrendous football to watch ever. At least the current lot provide entertainment. Not for us fans obviously, but we give opposition fans a laugh 😂
Yeah that’s true. And even if we don’t score we have tended to actually attack teams. I know the results have been a shiiiiitshow, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our games in the CL this season at least. They’ve genuinely been incredible games of football.

Yeah I'm with you there. Only thing is, even at 38 years old (my birthday began 18 minutes ago) I still can't sleep well after an adrenaline busting midweek game like those. I was honestly wired up to the moon after those matches 😂
Doubt the booze helps either.
Happy birthday, mate. Hope you have a good one.

Cheers! I actually never touch a drip during the week so have been sober through all our CL games. But I'm just very highly strung and get too emotionally involved 😂. Honestly, watching a United cliff hanger in midweek, my adrenaline levels are at the same level as if I'd been playing 5 a side! 😂
Just checked and in the 21/22 season we scored & conceded 57, finishing with a GD of 0.
The LvG period is interesting by comparison. We get into much better positions under ETH than we were under LvG but the quality is simply not there. Under LvG we arguably had more quality in attack but everything was so, so slow that it didn’t really matter.
I still can’t believe that we’ve spent £200m on the RW (Antony, Sancho, James, Amad) and still don’t have the position sorted out.

It's points not goals that are important.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So how do go about getting “points” if you can’t score more goals than your opponent? especially when we are also conceding quite a lot of goals at present.
Utd have scored more than 1 goal in only 5 of the 16 EPL matches

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you not think there is a correlation between the two??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No. Winning some games by lots of goals is great, and I wish we could do it often. But if you lose the next game you have three points. The team that wins one nil, followed aby a nil all draw has four points. And that scenario happens, winning is all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst there is some merit to this, Saturday is a good example of a game we could've easily taken 3 points if we could score goals.
Instead we lose 3-0, because we cannot score and we cannot defend.
6 of the highest 7 victories in the post Fergie era......
Ole was at the wheel. 😁
Imagine where United would be without the goalscoring prowess of McTominay.

Apart from a spell at the start of Mourinho's second season, the only time where we've been able to score three or more goals with any frequency since Ferguson has been under Ole. Really grim for Man Utd.
