Playing such a high line when 2-0 up at old trafford did seem strange. Pretty naive from Villa but that's how they play I guess. I wonder if Spurs will still do the same when they play there in January.

Spurs always do. They will be without Son, Bissouma and Sarr too because of the AFCON / Asia Cup.
Yeah we play a high line but we're better in possession (usually) than Villa were today. They seemed to have no ideas when it came to progressing the ball up the pitch.
Villa were absolute cack today. Which was very surprising.
And United were like a proper PL team. Which was also very surprising.
Forest next.

We played well today other than two incredibly soft goals we gave away.
The balance in attack with a right footed RW who was prepared to take on his man constantly was so refreshing to see.
Hojlund will score more goals for United with Garnacho on right and even Rashford there in some games (Galatasaray) than he ever will with Antony.
The front 3 needs to be left alone now. Get Shaw back on left with Rashy and let Garnacho do his thing on the right. We will improve by default.
Now if only we had a decent keeper........I'd play Tom Heaton over this clown when he's fit. He's not a world class keeper or anything like if but he's solid and steady. That's a huge upgrade on Onana.
Lets see if United can take the positives in this game into the next one.
Garnacho looked happy and comfortable on the right and it worked. And its clear that it was good to get Rashy back. He creates chances and is not scared to have a shot at goal whenever he can. Like to see him and Shaw on that left hand side more
Spot on OP. Emery showed his weakness there. He was livid when Villa gave the ball away for the first goal which shows what his mentality was and what the plan was. They sat back and drew United on to them which was suicide at OT.
I think the atmosphere at the ground plated a part in revitalisation of Utd. There was a hush when Villa took 2-0 goal lead for ten mins or so then the utd crowd came alive and cheered on everything inc throws and blocks!
It kind of started players like Bruno and Rashford to exert more efforts which enabled counter attacks which tire villa many times until utd found the openings.
Can utd do this away from OT?
Villa have got away with murder in a few away games this season - we were miles better than them but somehow lost, they have really been getting lucky away.
Spurs will just keep attacking United in a few weeks, regardless of the score, might try and shut up shop with 10 mins to go but otherwise we will be quite open.
The good news for us is that we’re likely to have Micky Van der Ven and James Maddison back, possibly Bentancur as well. We could line up:
Vicario
Porro Romero VDV Udogie
Bentancur Maddison Skipp
Kulu Richy Johnson

The crowd was there from the start. They conceded two goals with their crowd on too form. As the game progressed it became clear what was happening and he was powerless to stop it. United weren't even that brilliant to come back like that. Protecting a two goal lead against a crap attacking team like United shouldn't be that complicated. Villa and Emery couldn't handle the lofty heights and promptly self-destructed. Emery facked up and showed why he is not at the very very top of the
manager league IMO.

Reminded me of the Chelsea game where their tactics combined with us turning up made for perfect bedfellows. Hopefully we push on against Forest.

hmm...must replace Son in FF
We were lucky ultimately. After every goal there was a good chance they missed which would have sealed the game. It was the dangerous 2 game lead. If it was 1it would have ended differently funny enough
Villa really only have themselves to blame for that loss, mistakes led to us getting possession in crucial areas, tactically the were very naive and didn’t change up when they should have. Hats off to us for that performance and taking advantage, but Villa played massively into our hands, and could have locked us out far earlier

Omg, cheer up lad...It could be worse, you could be Chelsea
Garnacho is very similar to Martinelli
Forest had a hell of a new manager bounce so that’s looking a tricky fixture for you. Must say I’m looking forward to your game vs spurs from an entertainment point of view, should be very end to end.
We absolutely battered Spurs and should have 0-3 to 0-4 up first half but point blank misses cost us. Even in the 2nd half we had 2 great chances. How they won that game was basically a miracle. Ange actually hasn’t done much this season to what was happening before but they are just a lucky side. Everton the latest victims after battering Spurs and losing.

Good one, Hafi
If you look at Spurs stats they are actually worse this season than last. That is why Chelsea hammered them as they concede chance after chance nearly every game they play. I was shocked it took so long for them to get hammered. Spurs expected points 27.21 this season to actual points 36 this season. Expected goal difference of +2.23 vs actual goal difference of +13.
Last season after 18 games it was expected points 29.11 and actual points of 33. Expected goal difference of +6.89 although real goal difference of +12.
So Spurs statistically are playing much worse than last season and probably the worst since expected goals stat came out lol.
Man Utd who have been terrible defensively this season PSXG is 27.9 from 19 games while Spurs is 28.2 from 18 games so Spurs are more wide open than Man Utd lol and we concede goals for fun this season.
BTW I am grateful Villa helped us out. We really needed those 3 points in battle for top 5.
