How I saw it in main.

A few points

12 oclock sunday games, should be banned, first half was worst atmosphere at ER, ive known.

Big up, to Anthony, who’s mother passed away just a few days ago, and turned up, knowing he wouldnt start.

Thought it was a dodgy pen while at game, but stonewall when I see replays. Soft yes, but that is the rule.

Why do managers make stuff up, to defend themselves, its pathetic

Very difficult match, which I thought we managed well.
Really disappointed with the ref, he should have clamped down on the rough house tactics early on,instead it got out of hand.

Dan James has been a different player this season he causes problems running at defenders and his finishing has been very good.
Rutter is one who I thought was a bad buy last season is proving to be a great addition.

Good summary, though the more I watch it, the more the penalty was spot on. Arm out and seems to move towards the flight of the ball. Lowe deluded with the excuses.

Ref was poor and allowed them to foul far too much. Niggly stuff for the most part, but some poor tackles and time wasting (Lowe kicking the ball on the pitch to delay a free kick).

Deserved win.

Great point re Anthony.

Why didn't you think it wasn't a great penalty Jonty?

It was taken in an atmosphere of great pressure when both Summerville and Bamford of late had missed recent penalties so would have been nervous to take it.

It needed a man with few nerves to take it and Piroe has that quality.

Keepers second guess penalty takers, right or left and whilst Piroe scuffs it a little it was but down the middle and therefore perfect placement.

It is calculated that goalkeepers are actually twice as likely to save a penalty if they stay in the middle of the goal rather than dive to one side or the other. Researchers state that standing still is therefore the optimum strategy for saving penalties.

"Keepers second guess penalty takers, right or left and whilst Piroe scuffs it a little it was but down the middle and therefore perfect placement."

It wasn't down the middle.

It was to keeper's left, but not enough, keeper dives left, saves it easily.

Time wasting is becoming a real scourge of the game.

Can easily be stopped.

Keeper gets one warning, then a booking. I said to my dad, on 50 mins, Ref will keep warning him, then book him late on.

And the physio is on far too much, its not gamesmanship, its cheating. Their physio, got dogs abuse, when he came on, but to be fair he was laughing and took it well, but he knew what was going on.

Anyone know why Firpo got booked, it was a throw in🤷🏻‍♂️

You don't think this is down the middle, of the goal, might not be mathematically so you're splitting at hairs surely

Keeper stands still on the spot he saves that.

I thought same with keeper, its a token gesture, do it earlier though and then keeper on thin ice.

I dont think I've ever seen player sent off for 2 time wasting yellows.

Waving a fake yellow card, I didn't see that but symptomatic of a ref who'd lost control.

Still Bamford shouldn't do that kind of thing.

Another point, why are refs getting away with refering differently in first 20 mins, to rest of game.

A booking is a booking whether in first or last minutes.

Ref was diabolical yesterday and pleasantly surprised that he spotted the penalty. The booking for Rutter was embarrassing. If he's not sure, just play on. No need to book him when he was clearly caught on the upper foot. Keeper also handled outside the box and should have gone

Ref: The pen. It went in, and so it was more than good enough.
Replays show the ball barely touches the underarm. But that 's enough. Arm seeking the ball

Preston were dirty throughout - clearly trying to get us down to 10 men after it worked against Meslier last time we played.

It's a shame that the ref wasn't switched-on to it. He was poor apart from the penalty award which was the only important call he had to make.

A great result for us. Couldn't see anything other than a draw until the pen because of all the above. A bit of luck for us at last!

The Firpo booking was weird. He made a tackle, won the ball and their player rolled around. OK he might have been caught but the ref played on and the ball went out for a grow in. At that point the ref spoke with the Preston player on the floor then booked Firpo. No free kick given - so he never played-on for advantage (I think we had the ball anyway).

Just one of many many poor decisions and Preston’s 7 bookings should have been at least 9 and 2 reds. Horrible team to watch.

I do worry about the standard of refereeing in this division. These are supposedly full-time officials but, with a few exceptions, they allow the kind of cynical and dangerous play by teams like PNE, Stoke and others. When you see it on tv, it looks dreadful. What does it look like when you are at the game? There was one scissors tackle on Gruev that looked like an instant red to me. Dangerous, intending to bring the player down. The PNE players knew, at that stage, the ref wasn’t going to do anything about it, so they deliberately set out to harm our players. Do we have to wait for a serious injury to DJ or Cree before we raise our voice about this? That ref was dreadful, and he not the worst we have seen this season. It makes me wonder how these people are being trained as referees, and what directives they are being given.

Evidently over the two games against us they committed 40 fouls. That’s the most any team has done against another in the last three seasons in the Championship.
