Thought you were changing this year Wolfie? You're already on your 'couple on here' posts. Didn't take too long.

All I said was, they were slow to react, which they were.
Trouble was brewing when at least four bottles were thrown at Doyle when he took a corner where the trouble started. They should have been there then.

Surprise it took this long for a couple on here to blame the police.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In general I've no beef with plod (despite my wrongful arrest back in 1987 by a bored Stokie officer who was trying to show off to his admittedly very attractive trainee WPC, by pulling me in for "trying to steal my own car". When it eventually dawned on him that driving a car that you literally own, away from a car park is perfectly legal, he tried accusing me of trying to break in to the car I was parked next to which clearly hadnt been broken in to. Tried to style it out by chucking me in a cell for an hour whilst he "checked whether the owner of the other car wanted to press charges" then let me go. I could tell the trainee WPC had sussed him out as he kept digging, making himself look more of a d*ck as every minute passed)... any way as I said no beef from me, however WMP do have a small percentage of complete and utter loons, in particular the one who was dancing around like a chimpanzee waving his baton about outside the Steve Bull lower after the Villa actively looking for trouble.

St John’s Ambulance Spokesman : “The situation was made much worse by heavy handed policing and indiscriminate wielding of batons. One of the injured officers was pushed down the stairs by his own colleague” FFS!

Over to you, Wolfie

There were loads of police there and from what I saw, they were slow to react.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. Disgraceful behaviour from the WMP. Slow to react in the first instance, heavy handed indiscriminate baton wielding when they finally appeared. Inflamed a fairly routine public order situation.

It's no wonder so many of them need to assume a low profile and retire abroad when they reach pensionable age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy to criticise when you're in no danger yourself and it's the police who, always outnumbered, have to face neanderthal thugs.
How brave of you.

They wouldn't put us where the militants were for fear of too many arrests. Instead, they kept us at those mines where they wanted to work. Got on very well with both the miners and their families. We gave them our pre packed meals and often had collections for them.

Actually went down a mine at the Bilsthorpe Colliery. Quite an adventure.

Were you in the Met, Wolfie? I thought I remembered you saying you were previously.

Sure was.

You are aware of all the controversies surrounding the Met and how it has been found to be rife with homophobia, misogyny, racism, sexual misconduct and corruption since the 1970s?

I don't think the south is 'where the good-uns were' to be honest. Its been quite the scandal over here.

What profession doesn't have all those. I left in '94 after 25 years and the only thing I appreciated was Sir Robert Mark clamping down on the CID and corruption. The rest were non existent in my day and the rest you mention are all modern day terminologies.

The Police Force today bears no resemblance to the good old days and are dictated by politics and politicians who know nothing about police work in general. When was the last time you saw an officer walking the streets?

Well I reckon it's safe to say that homophobia, misogyny, racism, sexual misconduct and corruption are all words that could be found in the Oxford English dictionary prior to 1994.
