Let’s not pretend for a second that Alonso is as good as Klopp at management but there’s clearly something there. He’s the best option on the table unless Ancelotti became available as he’s the only other manager on Klopp’s level. Aside from Pep obviously.
Will end up the most decorated manager in football history when Man Cheaty are stripped of their bogus trophy haul.
A club is still much more than a manager and the players. The club will still and has been standing long after Players and Managers go.
=====================
Tell that to Utd fans, who've been trying to get to the same levels as SAF since he left

Don’t know why you’re laughing. When your cheating club gets what they deserve, you’ll be competing against pond life in non-league.
Get f*cked, clown.
I'd like to think they'd spend more time getting it right. Difficult to get things agreed in two months mid season for the right choice.
I still have no idea who the right choice is but I'm hoping they've got a shortlist built up by now.
Can't help but think the job would be too big for Alonso right now?!,
think the next Liverpool manager needs experience at the top level for a good period of time to allow him to hit the ground running.
no guarantees, but surely the flops of Lampard at Chelsea, ole and Giggs at United would ring alarm bells with Liverpool fans regarding Alonso?
The fact Lijnders is going makes me think they have someone lined up.
Welcome back to club the Mr Roy Hodgson !!!

Chill
out of the current options, i'd rather we got alonso. he's doing impressively well with leverkusen.
possibly the step up to a club of our size would be a little bit early for him right now...
the best choice would probably be ljinders... provide continuity, but i can understand why that wouldn't be an option, for both the club and for him..
for the club, it would be a hell of a risk to put him there with no track record in top job.. yes we had a history of promoting from the boot room, but the game has changed since then, and fans wouldn't give the new manager time to grow into the role these days.
and for him, a clean break and taking the top job elsewhere lets him put his own marker down.
if he took over here, there's a risk of being tied into the existing methodology and processes when he might want to change things up.. plus there's a risk that any success he has is attributed to just continuing what klopp started, instead of getting full recognition for his own achievements.

It’s a valid concern, but I’d argue that Alonso has already shown far more than any of those mentioned.
I trust FSG to make a good appointment.

I just hope we keep the same style of football, it’s got to continue, Rodgers started it klopp took it to another level , don’t no Alonso style tbf
Sky Bet odds for next Liverpool manager:
Xabi Alonso 1/2
Roberto De Zerbi 6/1
Pep Lijnders 8/1
Ange Postecoglou 14/1
Can you imagine it on here if it was Ange?
Whoever it is will be massively up against it. Fan expectations are now high again and there's a very good chance the star player will also be leaving for Saudi Arabia.
Alonso wasn't even on anyone's radar 6months ago too. Could be too soon for him for a job this big I reckon.
