The usual excuses.

I read yesterday that total PL spending was £50m this window compared to £550m last January. Obviously still 13 hours or so, but there is clearly a tightening of belts by all clubs. Also points to clubs not letting the players they do have go.
Maybe the excuses hold weight this window.

Shouldnt this article be tomorrow?

Jonty, I think that some of the reasoning is sound, there are very few players available that would improve the squad in the positions we require at this time of year, Farke flags up right back (Archie's position?) as an example, players who are an improvement will be playing for their club, probably at Premier League level or the equivalent and therefore difficult to get to move over (financially can we afford them, can we afford their wages, do they want to drop down a level?), if they are not playing, do they represent a step up on what we have already?, looking at players who are out of contract, is there anybody who could do a job without a pre-season?

It has been obvious for some time we were unlikely to sign anybody, I'm off to bed already.

Yep, we've known for ages we wouldnt be signing anyone, just highlighting the annual excuses that get trotted out.

It's incredible any business happens in Jan when everyone says how impossible it is.....

No good business to be done in January

—————————————————-

Kind agree with this, very hard to get good players, hitting the ground running.

See out disasterous last Jan.

Always the loan window
——————————————

Left with the dregs, ie that w@nker we got from spurs on last day of august window.

It concerns me that we keep hearing FFP excuses, we've got no money, we have all these loan players (weren't people saying loaning these players out was great idea!)

————————————————

Contract king has absolutely destroyed us FFP this year with these stupid loan deals.

As of this moment I've renewed confidence that before 11pm tonight Leeds United will announce the signing of Connor Roberts from Burnley....He will be a welcome addition to the squad especially as he will complete a quartet of Welsh current international footballers to wear the LUFC colours in one season, a fete never before equalled in Leeds United's 105 year history. Yaki da!!!!

Press conference yesterday was 3 minutes on team news and 15 minutes on excuses as to why we haven’t brought anybody to the club.

Not excuses Ipswich and Southampton are making

"We will only bring in players better than we have."

If a club our size, with our income, can't find better
players than Shacks, aging Cooper, Poveda, and
Joffy to name a few, then there's real issues here.

Side note: I'd be very happy if Connor Roberts signs.
Clear upgrade to the team.

Phil Hay
@PhilHay_
Leeds United have agreed a loan deal for Burnley's Conor Roberts. Straight loan to the end of the season. Set to travel for a medical and to sign ahead of tonight's deadline.

Apparently we're considering a late move for Harry Souttar as well. Would that mean goodbye Cooper or Cresswell?

I'd be shocked if Souttar joins us. Very good player.
Shocked but very happy at the same time.

Proper right back, wonder what impact that signing will have on selection. Is he likely to start ahead of Archie.

Simply gives us more options, like when Spence was still here. Allows for more rotation and Archie deffo needs a rest given the minutes he's racked up this season.

I'm not sure he's self appointed.

Am sure someone else called him a low it all once.

Where have I said that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Its you who be banging on about having injury prone players in the sqaud.

Yet lauding this player, whos barely played last three seasons.

So what is it

posted on 1/2/24

Oh and he’s other side of world at Asian Cup and might not be back for two weeks.

Can anyone seriously suggest this would be a good move.

And if the club are tying it, thats worrying

Phil Hay hasn't mentioned it. Im fairly happy with CR for January. Did think we needed a full back.

If we signed Souter where does that leave Cresswell? He was on the branch v Plymouth and got a round of applause and acknowledged the crowd. It kind of felt he was back in the fold...

This above (feel free to re read slowly) is what I wrote.

"I'd be shocked if Souttar joins us."

^^^

Why? He's a member of the best squad in this division.
Why would Leicester let him come to us? In addition,
Sheff U and possibly Everton are interested.

So again, I'd be shocked if Souttar joined us.

"Very good player."

^^^

He is. Probably the most important member of that
Stoke side. So much so, he got a move to the Prem.
He might not fit Maresca's style. But, that doesn't
change the fact he is a very good player. And one of
several very good options the best squad in this division
can call on.

"Shocked but very happy at the same time."

^^^

Why? Again, he's a very good player. Plus, he'd be
an obvious upgrade over Cooper and Cresswell. Who
while were talking about lack of playing time,
haven't played much football in the last 6 months.

Again, Souttar would be an obvious upgrade to this
squad. That's what I've been asking for all along.

However, and I'll go back to the top, I'd be shocked if Souttar joins us.

I'd also be very happy with Roberts. Welsh lad.
Sh ! t houser. And a solid RB. Frees up Archie to
play either midfield or RB.
