Still amazes me that women, literally 50% of the planet, are considered a kind of minority by certain types.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It also amazes how we managed to keep the patriarchy going for so long. We have centuries of almost exclusive male monopoly of culture, decades of Grammys etc being overwhelmingly dominated by male artists, then all it takes is a few female winners and it unleashes an ocean of bedwetting. Was female subjugation sustained all those years by a fear of tantrums?

I think they secretly want to bring back the days when women were banned from acting and the female roles were played by handsome young bucks.

it's awards organised by and for the (American) Pop Music industry. Which is just one genre of music throughout the world. There are plenty of other musical artists making better and or more creative/artistic music who wouldnt be considererd by the US Recording Academy for nomination. It's just ShowBiz. So what if they are mainly women. If they were mainly men nobody would bring it up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Feminists would and did.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes to deaf, male ears.

Fortunately the Pandora's Box of sexism and abuse in institutions such as The Recording Academy (and most other cultural/artistic/sporting governing bodies) has been opened.

And still some men are slowly having to, begrudgingly, deal with it.

Virtue signalling? Yeah likely to be some of that going on. The spotlight is firmly on women artists, performers, feminist themes more than it's ever been. Hard to dispute it really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Stay indoors, Spurtle. I've heard that there are successful women in the cultural sphere out there. Sounds dangerous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where did I say there weren't successful women?

I have never watched the Grammys. It just has no appeal to me as the music it represents is not for me.

Not really bothered by award shows in general. The last time I watched the Oscars was when The Return of the King won the lot..

Wonder what the reaction was like when Whitney Houston, Alanis Morrissette, Allison Krauss and Celine Dion were winning the most awards in the 1990s.

ffs, some of my more simple friends are banging on about this on Whatsapp now too...

They've never shown the slightest bit of interest in the Grammies... Yet somehow this anti-swift, anti women propaganda has made it their way.

I despair at social media. People in the UK getting caught up in the stupidest US culture wars

I think they should remake Oasis but with an all-female cast like they did with Ghostbusters.

Weren't 'ladettes' the female version of the type of bloke Oasis helped create? Remember the Girlie Show on C4, I bet Kenickie (Lauren Laverne's band) played on it.

Don't you dare say anything bad about the best Beatles tribute act ever produced by Manchester.

Agree with everybody else regarding Oasis, great first few years then the same old same old from then on. Little by little and that era was just regurgitated crap.

posted on 5/2/24

Are Oasis overrated? Probably, overall. But Definitely Maybe and What's the Story deserve all the praise they got. Amazing albums then and now. Totally era-defining. Brilliant collection of B-sides as well.

posted on 5/2/24

Definitely Maybe was great, the rest were poor imho

What's the Story is probably my least favourite of the lot, the production is dreadful. Durge.

They captured a moment though, no doubt... I was at Knebworth with the rest of the country.

Ji

I think Morning Glory is a poorer side piece to Defintely Maybe, the only 2 records Noel wrote pre fame, everything after that is garbage. I saw Oasis in Finsbury Park around 2001, one of the worst gigs ever. Filled with loads of pale podgy white bloked wearing Stone Island filling up their empty pint cups with p-ss and sh-t and throwing it at the crowd behind.

Yea, there are good songs on that album, just badly recorded (i think that was the album recorded in Wales, where Liam was acting up, bringing the locals around for pisss ups etc)... It just sounds bad to me, i think even Noel said the same himself.
