well done Rangers , over to us now

our saving grace is Hibs are currently honking so even a below par performance should be enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If we could play any team every week I would pick Hibs.

They try and play out from the back and arent good enough to.

They are open and try to attack you but they arent good enough to.

The games are entertaining and we usually win fairly comfortably.

I expect Celtic to do the same tonight. As much as I would Celtic to slip up again I just dont think tonight will be the night.

Brendan will pop his Easter Rd cherry tonight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they have been in dreadful form but i would also expect a reaction to Saturdays result - maybe from both teams .
if it gets to 0-0 at HT then i think we will shiiittt the bed
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thing is their manager has been very open and consistent about saying he isnt going to change the way he plays.

And that way plays right into the hands of teams that are fitter and better technically - like Rangers and Celtic.

Did they get a draw against Celtic earlier in the season so its not impossible? I just think they have been pash poor every time we have played them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they are so lightweight in the middle of the park, zero steel to them at all, there is zero spine to that team at all.

The keeper is a liability as well. Absolutely done.

Reckon Miovski will go for decent money to a low EPL team or top Championship, probably £5M - £10M, he’s a very good player.

One hard chance last night and he scored.

Aberdeen have done well at securing good fee's recently so wont be pushed around. There was maybe a chance to nab him cheaper in this window but thats gone now.

Joe Lewis suggested 8m and I really dont see a newly promoted EPL team or lower level EPL team baulking at that at all.

He is a level above Shankland and would be perfect for either one of us I think. too expensive for us I think however

I’m surprised neither Celtic or Rangers bought him in the window, he’s on target for 30 goals this season, in a mince Aberdeen team. Mental.

we couldnt afford him, only you lot could.

He is an 6'2, athletic striker, who works hard, is sharp and can finish. if he was at either Celtic or Rangers the asking price would be between 20-30m for him with 3 years left on his deal IMO.

Miovski showed his class again, not really in any doubt about him.

Think the Premier League will beckon for him in the summer. Aberdeen well within their rights to demand close to 10m which will be too rich for Rangers/Celtic.

I thought Lundstram was very good last night and would like him tied down on a new deal as soon as possible.

Our midfield quality looks good now, real fight for places.

Lundstram, Jack, Sterling for the deeper battling role.
Lawrence, Diomande, Raskin for the role alongside.

Cantwell for that number 10 role, Lawrence or Diomande both look like they could do that if needed, some fancy Silva for it too.

For me Silva's got to be the main striker for the rest of the season, clever, hard worker, good feet. The goals will come if he gets a run. I do think he's got a daft challenge in him though he's very excitable so expect a red card or 2.

Matondo has done well over the last couple of games by his standards but I fancy Cortes to take that spot off him. Dunno when Sima is back but the wide attacking options will look pretty decent then. McAusland i can't fault with his work effort, think he just needs a little bit more going forward to nail down a place but Clement clearly likes him and his desire to track back is fantastic.

If the goals start flowing for Silva we could really be in business.

Lundstrum has been our best and most consistent performer since Clement has come in.

Clement has made his role very clear to him.... he is the pivot. its his job to take the ball from the CBs and move it on and protect the back 4 and he has done it superbly.

Clement likes to have Lundstrum as the mop up and control the centre player, the cm next him is the one that looks forward to break the lines and feed the attacker and a no 10 to push right up in support of the striker.

Cantwell now starting to time his runs into the box far better and finding himself on the end of things a lot more now.

Silva looks the more complete striker, has decent pace also.

I think when Sima is back Cortes will move over to the right to challenge Mcausland who after a quiet few games has picked his form back up again.

Southampton were sniffing about Miovski, that type of club again will be after him

The problem with Lundstram is his wage. When we signed him I think it made him highest earner at the club.

Obviously he's looking for a new deal on similar terms and is he really worth that? I like the effort he gives but for that outlay you're looking for someone who is capable of more. He's neither technically good enough to be a holding midfielder who makes us tick nor does he score goals or assist. He's also 30 years old and has only played in spells over the 3 seasons he's been here.
Rangers have been guilty of rewarding mediocrity too often in recent years and so unless Lundstram is willing to sign up on much reduced terms we should part ways and thank him for his efforts.

I think he has been the best player (outfield) since Clement came in he is reportedly on 22k a week and he is worth that all day long IMO.

22k a week? You're talking nearly double that!!!

Remember he was a bosman signing with various options down south from a team in the Premier league. He was a Gerrard signing and he pushed the boat out to bring him in. We used the bulk of our budget on him that summer hence not spending a lot of money elsewhere.

Did I read correctly that Rangers wage bill was higher than Celtic’s?

Reportedly that is.

he isnt on 44k a week , there is nothing out there that suggests that. where are you finding this.

there are plenty of sites that work these out by having access to things. Im not seeing any of them quoting anywhere near that.

This year, yes. Think its the first time in a long time and marginal but yes our wage bill now higher which is ridiculous. Albeit given the difference on the pitch at the moment is marginal perhaps not as ridiculous as I thought when I first read it months ago.

posted on 7/2/24

yup celtic spending about 23m a year on wages and we spend about 26m.

Looks like Jack Butland is our highest paid player at about 40k a week

I didn't say £44k a week, I said almost double the £22k referenced. He's on between £35k - £40k per week.

His wage created a huge issue for us with trying to renew other players - Kent, Goldson and Morelos in particular. All quite rightly referenced his contribution and output vs theirs and demanded similar which just wasn't viable for us. Whilst we managed to get Goldson last minute when he ran out of better options we obviously lost out on a lot of income with the other two running their deals out.

I like Lundstram but if we give him a new deal on similar terms at his age it would be negligence. If that means he moves on in the summer so be it, he's very much replaceable for that money.
