Lukaku, starting to look like one of the cheaper problems

I dont understand when people try to work out the price of the player of the length of his contract but never actually consider the wages they earn in that time also and add that to the price.

"If he were to be sold in the next the club would require 84m to break even." they would require up front to break even. and that pretty much never happens nowadays

Chelsea must be the only club in the world that could buy a player for 80m then sell him 12 months later for 70m and claim they made a profit !!

Well, it is two different accounts.

The amortization figure is separate responsibility for the club, as in most these cases the wage contract continues after the amortization cycle finishes.

I hope that clarifies it.

How do you work that out ?

who cares . compartmentalise it any way you want to make it look better. its still the overall cost over the period if you want to calculate the actual cost over the contract period.

ok , thanks for your valued opinion

cos normal people include the past costs when calculating cost.

By the way, laying it out the way i have, is not about making it look better.

It illustrates the the scale of the specific issues regarding these key contracts.

it shows how much you have hindered yourself in future spending.

buying a player for 100m selling him for 80m 1 year later is not breaking even

, yeah he got the wrong end of the stick by the looks of it!

I actually thought the article explained the issues reasonably simply.

It is for the purpose of accounting, which is what FFP / P&SR is assessed on.

Devon , i was getting comfortable with the amortization problem

But the putting these players on 7/8/9 year wage contracts will create players who are not going anywhere, down the line.

The current morale issue being reported and how this pans out imo will set the tone going forward.

the good thing about the long contracts however is that if you have a gem then you will find that in about 4 years time with 4 years left on his deal he will be getting paid a relatively cheap wage in comparison to the rest of the world as wages continue to increase.

By my simple maths CFC have added about £110m a year to their amortised costs, just on those players alone. Which is mad when you consider Spurs total amortisation costs are about £85m, while CFCs were £165m back in 21/22 season, to which they will have added these huge sums to.

Your next set of figures will be out soon and i'd be surprised if for the 2022/23 season amortisation isnt well over £200m and you're probably on track for £250m for the 23/24 season.

Revenue dropping by £50m will just compound your mess.

Thats a massive risk though.

But also, if the club is a mess, i feel it makes it far less probable that a talent will meet its potential, especially if they're on an 8 year deal which guarantees them £50m in wages whatever the outcome.

Boeley has converted Chelsea fans into accountants

posted on 7/2/24

Yeah, I suppose it is reasonable to assume that was the clubs thinking, but really to much baggage comes with.

Imo the risk is far to great, and every time you buy players who are not the gem, you on a hiding.

Personally the risk and reward odds do not add up!
