Sancho is the only flop on there. The others have either done well enough or it’s too early to tell.

How many goals did Havertz or Nunez score since they joined bear in mind the hefty outlay?

if they were not a flop, their scoring records should be around 20+ goals by now.

Neither are nowhere near 20+goals a season players.

Agree on Enzo. He's struggling as his side is struggling too. Havertz and Nunez won;t get a better side to play for, but they are bang average,

posted on 14/2/24

Where did that total come from? Especially for a midfielder, why on earth should Havertz be hitting 20+ goals a season. James Maddison a flop because he has only 3 goals?

Darwin Nunez, a regular at the table topping club.
Havertz, a regular at a team in the title fight and the CL.

Both seem to be doing something right for their managers... Maybe that should be the point of judgement rather than a random metric that makes little sense.

Also, there is a big difference between not matching your fee (in the eyes of spectators) and being a flop.

Name one player who, after one absolute stinker of a first season went on to become a premier league legend? I don't think you'll be able to. Generally speaking, you might see marginal improvement but by and large if they're terrible in their first season, they'll probably be terrible the entire time. Havertz has been in the Prem for 4 years and has bombed at Chelsea and Arsenal and no winner in the CL final changes that. He's had enough time to prove himself.

Flop-PL Legend.

For the record, Nunes is the only one that shouldn't be on that list. He's got 8 goals this year and has hit the woodwork a further 9 times. If those had gone in he'd be top of the scoring charts. If you're cynical about it you'd say those prove he misses the target but they're fine, fine margins. Even if you assume under normal circumstances half of those go in, he's up there with Mo Salah on 13 or 14 this year. Plus he's warmed the bench a lot this year.

I'm convinced if it clicks he's a 30 goal a season man. There's no way he's a flop.

Drogba got 10 goals in his first PL season. 12 in the next one. I'm pretty sure Chelsea fans would call him a legend.

Or how about Salah or KDB? Firmino was inconsistent when he first joined but developed into a world class striker. Plenty of time for Havertz to develop still.

Okay, name one that's justified a huge fee? My point is that improvements after the first season tend to be marginal. If a player is going to storm it, it happens pretty quickly. All of these lads, with the exception of Nunes and maybe at a push Enzo, have been largely awful.

Not for me. There are rare examples where great players come in and play for the wrong manager - i.e KDB and Salah with Jose, or to a lesser extent, Modric under Ramos with us at Spurs, but Havertz has now played under quite a few managers at two clubs. Some expansive and attacking who give you the freedom to play, and other, more cautious types, that want you to cover your defensive responsibilities and he's flopped with them all. The example of KDB and Salah are unique because Jose has a blind spot to flair. He's terrible with players like that whereas most of those Chelsea lads are with Poch. I'm a Spurs fan, I know how he likes to play and he's the type to give creative players all the freedom in the world. I don't think they can apply the 'Jose' excuse in the same way.

I think everyone in the world has forgotten that Chelsea signed Wesley Fofana for £75m. Its the only reason he doesn't top these lists.

Nah, Son. A number of your fans referred to him as that for about 3 or 4 years. He got absolute pelters from your lot after failing to immediately justify his €30m fee.

No axe to grind but Nunes has parts of his game that he can improve, times when perhaps he should score from the presented chance but overall Liverpool look more dangerous with him playing?

He has scored a decent amount and could get a load better, I am not a coach so have no idea if he will or not but "flop" might be a bit strong? I'd include a couple others on the OPs list as well but each to their own opinion

I was going to bring up Son as well. Perfect example of a player having a poor first season then getting better.

I would say never being fit is an indicator the signing has flopped to be fair. Maybe not his fault, but certainly a massive error by the club to risk so much money on a player who missed most of the previous season injured.

I'm not sure that's true. He maybe took a few months to settle in but there's not a chance he was getting pelters 3-4 years in. He was already an established first teamer and banging them in at the end of the 2015/16 season - see away at Chelsea for the Battle of the Bridge game. There might have been times where Poch wasn't sure whether he was Kane's understudy and therefore a bench player or someone he could trust alongside him but he was a fan favourite within a year at most.

It's mental. I can't see what they're seeing. To me he looks like he could rival Haaland over the next few years. He's got pretty much everything. Plus he's getting the chances. He WILL be a 30 goal a season man. It's weird so many can't see it.
