I'd say both parties have some bargaining power. Newcastle have the ability to very significantly delay the appointment, and I assume the money they'd waste on his salary during extended gardening leave would be relatively low compared with the compensation sums being discussed.

Also we must have saved at least £10m in performance and goal bonuses not paid out to Mount and Antony. From a business sense we have been doing the best in the league in terms of keeping the goal bonuses paid out down, but now Hojland has started haemorrhaging the club money in goal bonuses, so understandable that we need a new sporting director. It is a business after all and it is extremely important to keep costs down. Goals cost the club money.
