I do prefer Alien 1, though 1 isn't an action film per se. I do appreciate it's sequel Aliens as an action film however
No, it's not even close to being the best ever made.
Agree that Fury Road and John Wick (I think all 4 are superb) are great fun.
However the best hour of action for me is the beach landings at the start of Saving Private Ryan. The fact that it actually happened and by all accounts is an incredibly realistic depiction makes it all the more brilliant.

Yeah, Alien is by far the best SciFi/Horror of all time - and the best of that particular franchise.
As for Action films, T2 & Aliens (both extended versions) are head & shoulders above anything else
I dont know about best ever, but I really enjoyed it, and have re watched it a few times.
Wouldn’t even put it in top 20
As others have said, Aliens takes some beating
No Die Hard or Indiana Jones?
For me the top 5 in no particular order would be:
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Aliens
Terminator 2
Die Hard
Predator
Yeah not having Die Hard in there is a big miss

It's a great scene but it always bothered me how when we see the perspective from the Germans at the top of the beach, it looks so sparse on the beach compared to the action shown with Hanks and the rest of the American soldiers.

By a million miles. Terminator 1,2 and predator also good. Mostly action movies are quite generic. Aliens is the greatest movie ever made
As for an action series gangs of london takes some beating
It’s not even the best Mad Max film.
MMFR, Top Gun Maverick and John Wick have no business being on that list imo.
Raiders of the lost Ark, Bourne Ultimatum, Die Hard, Braveheart. I could probably go on.
Edge of tomorrow is underrated imo
Yeah like edge of tomorrow, decent movie.
Good list of movies in the article but not sure about John wick , any of the films
The raid is one of my favourites and the 2nd film is just as good if not better
Spot on about upgrade …underrated and excellent
Oldboy and train to busan top of my list

I did consider a war film, but then I thought calling SPR an action film a bit disrespectful to those that died. The beginning sequence is harrowing however

I enjoy disagreement, but let us know what you think is better!
Black hawk down as war /action goes is good. Does gladiator count as action? It’s a great

I do agree leaving Die Hard out of my list is a big miss, but at the same time I find the films you've named here interesting. Films all from the 80s? I would guess you were born in the 70s!
I do think the age in which we grew up (our teen years and 20s) is a big factor in our decision making.
Personally I was born in 1990, so naturally I lean toward quite a few films that came out more recently. I can't help it, my natural bias I guess!
I can’t take to John Wick at all.
How many fvcking times do they say non communicato or whatever. Zzzzzz
Oooooo I’m an elite assassin but I have to stick to some rules and I have a special coin that grants me safe passage.

Never watched any, but was thinking I'd give them a try as people are always banging on about them. You've made them sound really crap. Probably won't bother.

Both are definitely great films. As I've grown up my thought process is to go a bit against war films as action films. Now that I'm a bit more aware of the atrocities that go on in the world, I feel war films is more a genre of it's own rather than action films.
For me action films are big dumb fun films that are entirely removed from the realities of the world. Films based on war I'm a bit reluctant to say hey that was fun! Knowing what people have actually gone through, but that's just me!
