That being said, great result last night for us. Especially after going a goal down. Not a game we would have won over the last few years.
Btw the save from Butland at 1-0 is the game changer. What a signing he has been. At this rate, especially if he ends up back in the England squad, I've no idea how we hold on to him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If he gets back in the squad at rangers then maybe he will be happy where he is. Let's hope so anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess the problem as always would be money.
If he wins a couple of trophies this season then gets offered £50k+ a week on a 3 or 4 year deal somewhere down south then he might feel he has to go. He clearly loves it at Rangers but money talks ultimately.
He could get £50k pw as a back up keeper at a top 6 club and nearer double that as a first choice starter for your average middling EPL team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
by al accounts he was offered about 50k a week to be back up for Man Utd.
If he gets into the England squad I think there is a good chance he stays here as good chance that only gets jeopardised by moving clubs.
The club will want to sell him for an inflated price however dunno if Butland will want to leave however.

To be somewhat fair he took off our captain at HT then our other 3 splendid (on the night) players at 60m. The job was done, save some legs - even Ange rested players where he could albeit got more out the rest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know. If you cant rest him at HT at 6 up then when can you but it does show the drop off in our team from half to half when some players aren't there
Butland won't leave just for the money as he could have raked it in at man united being their squad keeper and rejected that.
The issue will be if a decent EPL team offer him to be their no.1 and that sort of money.
I am slightly reassured by his recent interview where he talked about Alan McGregor testimonial and seeing that crowd for a goalie and thought that could be me.
Said in the same interview he wants to be somewhere where every game matters.

Yeah I agree, equally though Rangers and Scottish football is still quite new for him.
In a couple of years having played Killie 6 times a season he might feel he could have a last chance at going south and setting him and his family up to retire with one big last move whilst playing at a good level.
The one thing he's never really achieved is being a first choice keeper within the Prem at a good level and that's understandably likely to still be an ambition particularly if it aids his International cause.

Absolutely Butland will go if he gets a chance at first team football in the EPL.
He moved to Rangers for one single reason and that was to get playing regularly and get him back in the shop window.
Once done, he’s off. The rest is just soundbites for the fans. I genuinely believe he’s loving it at Rangers but how could any player in today’s money laden EPL turn that opportunity down for the sake of his career and his family?
Ridiculous to think otherwise and Rangers will have to sell if the “right” price comes along.
Didn't he turn down Forest in January with the no1 spot on offer maybe it was Rangers that turned down the bid?
I do think it would need to be 1st team PL football at one of the more established sides, he's not going for a relegation battle.

The most concerning thing about Butland is he is only 30. He is entering his prime right now and the next 4-5 years could be the peak years of his career.
Do I think he will be with us for the next 4-5 years?
Seriously doubt it.

What does your average No1 in EPL get? £100k? Would be hard to say no to quadruple your wage in the biggest league in the world.
Thankfully he has knocked back double his money to sit on bench though.

That said I accept that there can be degrees of mattering. The second leg of a cup tie where you've been horsed 7-0 in the first. A game where a player is one yellow away from a suspension that would impact a cup final. Players should always be trying their individual best but especially in team sports a group psyche can encroach.
