High jumpers and basketball players are very nimble and flexible but I get your point LIW but I'm still surprised clubs haven't tried to adapt a very tall athlete to become more skilled on their feet with a football and although high jumpers of 7 feet are certainly flexible they are
quite skinny and probably couldn't last or cope with the
physicality of top level football but basketball players
could and tennis players are exceptionally quick, strong and fit.
Therefore I'm still surprised a human giant hasn't broken
through to be at least utilised as a super sub....I
remember Mickey Droy at Chelsea in the 70's being
about 6 foot 6 and he had a pretty good career as a no
nonsense defender but there haven't been many of his size for many years but Haaland is one of the tallest centre forwards around today at 6 foot 4 ish and is very skillful for a tall man so I do think players above that statue are capable of being coached to be a real asset but as yet the 7 foot professional footballer hasn't appeared.

We had Matt Smith, just not mobile enough for todays game
6ft 7in Peter Crouch wasn't that bad, but I never forgave Sven for only taking him and a 17 year old Theo Walcott as attacking options in 2006.

8 matches in a month.....tennis players playing 7 matches in a fortnight, Pliskova just played 8 matches in 8 days on 2 different continents.
Tiredness would not be an excuse at this level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it's an excuse.
To compare the two sports by saying sport A plays this amount of games over this amount of time, whereas sport B plays this amount of games over this amount of time is a nonsense, both sets of athletes will be training constantly.
You also need to take into account fatigue caused by pressure that all athletes face.
Not saying that Pliskova will not get fatigued just saying I can understand why a player will be feeling a little jaded playing week-in week out.
"can you image bringing on a 7 foot player and having him at corners"
Can you imagine Gnonto charging between his legs with no crash helmet?..
The poor sod!.

Pliskova plays 45 weeks a year, week in week out, different continents, sometimes even two matches a day.
I think we hear far too much about tiredness and packed schedules and then clubs doing stupid preseasons in Australia.

Footballers are fit enough to play every day of the week.
But if that happened, the quality would go down more and more
Your a high class tennis coach, you can see the toll it takes on the body. Alot of injuries occur.
There to many games, players are getting flogged in both sportst. Its not good long term
Its not just physical fatigue either its mental fatigue as well.

I dont think many players do complain about the schedule.
But just because they are not flogged as much as Tennis players, doesnt mean they arent playing too much.

Tennis/ Football comparison - Not sure about that?
Take the Huddersfield game, there were times when I wasn't sure if we were playing the Giants not Town, it was that attritional and physically draining.
You're completely discounting the emotional pressure the guys are under, playing for Swansea for example, who are at this point are neither expected to be relegated nor promoted will be much more relaxed than playing for us or Stoke.
I appreciate that Pliskova also feels pressure, she looses and it is loss of income from the tournament, sponsorship etc, for her and her entourage.
Got to admit the rankings system in Tennis seems quite ruthless.
Football is way harder physically, plus tennis players don't get kicked to bits or shouted and heckled by thousands of people in games every week.
I think in football the biggest moaners are the teams charging around Europe and making the most bread!..
The so called top teams in all leagues!..
They're the ones getting paid out of their asses, we're playing our games and at the same time sending our players to play internationals, that's adding pressure on our players, but the teams playing in europe play their games, play european games and send their players for internationals!..
Crap is, they're the biggest moaners, but also the biggest earners!..
Odd that in the past teams did the same sort of stuff,(maybe not as many games!)moaned but had to get on with it!..
These days the players are much fitter, but roll about more and get paid 100's x more but are not fit enough to earn their bread!..
Somethings wrong somewhere, but its got nothing to do with us, it seems thats the way most sports are these days!..

So who is our current Jack Nicholson offering the 'Juicy Fruit'?
A magic film Dave!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes it's a film I never get tired of watching Rev but I'm not sure we have that type of self destructive though inspiring character, possibly Rutter or maybe when we had Cantona but I'd say Ballotelli when he was at Man.
City was pretty close to the McMurphy character played superbly by Nicholson.
Is the argument here that modern footballers play
too much football/tire physically and emotionally due
to over playing? Or are people arguing that this is
unfair on our players?
Every team plays the same amount of games bar
cup runs. So, every team in theory is equally
disadvantaged. And so there's no real advantage.
Get on with it.
