Some dodgy fouls given especially for the sending off
That was a TOUGH game. Reading are a really hard team to play against. I'm happy with the 3 points and in some ways the end result was closer than it could have been.
Dwight Gale rightly MOM and has become a real fox on the box.
The REF fortunately was on our side tonight as he was the one who sent off Wildsmith earlier in the season at Bolton...anyway it makes a change for decisions to go FOR us.
So onwards to a big game on Saturday which can really cement our place in the top 2. UTR.
Sky currently attempting to change the rules on when games can be rescheduled for TV and want our game on Saturday moved to a Monday 8 p.m. KO.
Dwight Gayle has managed the number of goals in 5 games that he did in the 2 seasons with Stoke City.
The ref certainly made up for his shocking display at Bolton by being just about as bad tonight. While we deserved to win the manner of it was in large part down to the ref. Two dubious yellows and hence a red and a dodgy penalty but we've had more than our share of bad decisions.
There were some excellent performances and it may be unfair to single anyone out but the back three were great as were Adams, NML, Barks and Gayle. What a signing he's turning out to be! Wildsmith had nowt to do and Hourihane put in a fantastic free kick for Cash to head against the bar (or was it the post?)
So we had some luck for a change and we must push on against Bolton this Saturday.

Begs the question if he was a free agent in January what the hell were we doing sitting on our hands

Can't be done this late on.
Long journey home. A38 and M54 both closed which added close to an hour. Yippee that we won then.
It should have been a lot more comfortable. I thought we were much the better team throughout and it would have been very unfair if we didn’t win.
There seemed to be a curious symmetry about the ref’s performance in this match and Bolton away. In the latter, although bad decisions went against us I felt that we would have lost regardless. Of course we can’t know for sure. Tonight I also felt strongly that we we would have found a way to win even without the harsh sending off and what looked to me a dodgy penalty. We will never know.
I thought Gayle looked a level above the rest. Rather than criticising the club for not signing him earlier perhaps we should be congratulating them for having stolen a march on all of the other clubs whose team he might have improved but who “sat on their hands”. Barkhuizen had a great game too.
Time you treated yourself to a helicopter, vidal.
I was getting a bit concerned about Peterborough’s resurgence and their 2 games in hand. But they still have to play Stevenage, Portsmouth and Bolton. So perhaps they can also do us a favour.
Likewise Pompey have to play Posh, Barnsley and Bolton (and us) so probably time to accept they go up as champions and they might do us a favour too.
