Leverkusen v West Ham

Not a great draw that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
😂😂 fk west ham
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The funny thing with West Ham is that they have made a Europa Semi, won the conference and made a Europa Quarter so far in the last 3 years yet haven’t played a single elite Euro side yet, no past CL winner.

It’s winding my West Ham mates up something chronic, they were desperate for AC/Benfica and a glamour draw. Instead they get a top side that lacks the glamour. The most exciting side they have played over these years is Seville.

Whereas I’ve seen us live against Messi’s Barca, beat Real, outplayed Juve, get tonked by Bayern, win and lose to AC, Inter, Dortmund, Ajax, Sporting, Benfica, Monaco, PSV, Marseille.

The only sides left I want to see us face are Porto, Roma and PSG
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Therein lies the difference between qualifying for the CL and the Europa League. That's why it's crucial to dine at top table.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The majority of the sides for us you mentioned were in CL, although we have played dortmund, inter in the europa. Sporting, monaco, psv, Marseille are a stretch though, they aren’t really any bigger than Sevilla/Lyon who west ham have played.

End of the day though, no1 cares who a team played enroute to a final, they just care about the trophy. And west ham have unfortunately shown themselves to be good in europe - they could easily win the europa this season if lpool make a mistake, so i want west ham out asap
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not worried, Leverkusen, Milan, Liverpool - they win those 3 ties and I will doth my cap to them as they will bloody deserve it - it’s not happening though, they would absolutely wilt in the san Siro and Liverpool are t losing to West Ham in a final.

Leverkusen could be distracted, if they are not then they will pump West Ham.

We’ve played decent sides in the Europa as well though, Inter, PSV, Dortmund, Benfica all in knock out games. West Ham just haven’t had that chance

Villa get the toughest draw they could have got, Lille. Lille currently 4th in France a win off second and a very decent side. They have the much touted Jonathan David upfront and Umtiti in defence. That’s some hard luck for Villa. On the other hand it will surely distract them for the league run in so could play into our hands anyway

posted on 15/3/24

Villa also got the hardest semi final route with Fenerbahce or Olympiacos in the Semi - I fancy Fenerbahce and the away leg will be hostile.

Fiorentina should meet Bruges in the other semi and whoever progresses from Villa’s side of the draw shouldn’t worry about either of these two - proper bang average

Seriously i don’t get the fawning for CL. If we get it, great. If not, it’s not big deal. Ange has literally just said in press conference that our targets won’t really change regardless of CL. So here’s to Arsenal and West Ham being spanked by German teams in the next round 🍻

the thing with UCL is the money.

But the thing with the money is that unless you can you pretty much guarantee UCL money every year, its difficult to think "Yay, we made the UCL, we can spend spend spend" because if you fail the next year you are up FFP shiiit creek, especially UEFA FFP which requires wages and transfer spend is a % of revenue.

For many clubs Financial planning to be FFP compliant will have to be based on not getting UCL.

It’s absolutely a big deal, and anyone who thinks it isn’t has no business being at our club.

Interesting analysis (for a change on here).

Englands chances of getting a Co efficient place dropped from 82% to 70% after the draw. Analysis thinks Bayern and Leverkusen advance, Dortmund out. City get a coin flip, Liverpool progress and Villa are slight favourites.

I don’t get any fan who doesn’t desperately want us back in the Champions League, it’s the Crème de la menthe and has raised the clubs profile considerably in the last decade.

If we miss out I will be gutted but get over it. If we miss Europe altogether (Somehow) then I will be distraught, it’s been so boring at times this season waiting around for our next game whilst others get to play constantly - can’t have another year like that

You are stressing way too much about it. What will be will be. CL would be great but lets be honest we ain't winning it even if we do qualify.

Worrying about Liverpool, Woolwich and co and the potential scenerios which could unfold, I mean flipping hell. Who gives a funk?

I've never seen a section of a fanbase stress about something nothing to do with Spurs directly, in terms of caring about other results and something which is totally out of anyone's control.

Seriously, it's abit crazy....

I don’t think people aren’t happy about getting into the champions league, more against the fact that for many years coming fourth and qualifying has been seen as some sort of trophy and the height of our ambition.

Personally I’d rather win an fa cup than come fourth and play a few games in the champions league. I get that it’s all about money, but I find that sad. I don’t see coming fourth listed on the clubs honours list anywhere.

If CL football is Crème de la menthe, Ange’s football can be the baileys. We could have ourselves a choc pop. Used to love a good choc pop.

So showing that we’ve reached a certain level, the players gaining experience of playing at that level (and learning to cope with two games a week) the financial benefits and the excitement and enjoyment of the fans.

Which of these are not important to us or our club exactly?

No I am a realist. Year one, new manager, new system, new players and we lost Kane.

Currently Ange is over achieving in league.

You're problem is you think you are entitled to success, even though history shows we are bottle jobs. Stay humble.

Right now I don't care where we finish. I'm only thinking about beating Fulham.

Trying to look into a crystal ball worrying about co efficients and the different permutations is crazy.

You end up saying daft chit like 'I will be supporting the enemy' like Fridge 🤦🏻‍♂️.
