Just had a look at the replay, there was no way he was offside at all, let alone affecting their keeper. There was another West Ham player on the line, goal side of Chirewa.
Surely we'll be hearing from the Ref's association again. Im sure that sense will prevail and we will be awarded all the points that have wrongly been taken from us. Champion's League is a certainty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was definitely in an offside position. A player dropped but wasn't goal side of Chirewa when Kilman headed the ball.
There is no way Chirewa obstructed Fabianski's view of the ball or ability to stop it though.
Have another look at the highlights Tam, particularly the VAR video. When the corner was delivered Chirewa was offside, but at the point the ball left Kilman's head the West Ham player had dropped back and, for me, Chirewa was onside.
The very fact that there is such disagreement (actually, it seems 90% of people are agreed) suggests that the VAR video is, at best, inconclusive. In this case VAR, and the ref, should have maintained the original decision - goal.
No doubt Wolves have been screwed in a few games with var but that’s not the main issue to me. They claim there’s been a small percentage improvement in correct decisions due to var but even if that’s true, ruining the game as a spectacle is too big a price to pay
It’s absolutely sucked the life out of the game for the fans that pay to attend the matches, without whom there would be no atmosphere and no product to sell to the TV companies.
How on earth can they justify disallowing the goal yesterday but allowing Man Cheaty’s second goal v Fulham earlier in the season?
No doubt in my mind that VAR is just another tool to protect the interests of the Premier League’s elite.
Yesterday was a new low for me leaving the ground.
VAR out!
We can complain all we like about VAR, but it ain't going away any time soon.
By the way Wulfrunnut, you can't be offside when a ball is delivered from a corner. 2nd phase yes.
Shame to see Cunha way off the pace yesterday as well. Hopes of him saving our season seem unlikely this late. He and Ait-Nouri together might have been fun though. Hopefully Ait-Nouri is fit though right now every time he plays he just gets more and more attention from bigger clubs. They were even waxing lyrical on Talk Sport yesterday apparently. Man. City need a LB/LWB so a possible destination
Certainly been a season of what ifs. Dread to think what it would've been like had we struggled as expected and these VAR decisions threatened our league status. But we've also been culpable in conceding goals at times that have owed more to poor defending or rather trying to play out of situations when the sensible thing to do is just get it as far away from goal as possible. Actually as I recall these lapses have led to us conceding penalties, yesterday, Fulham and Sheffield United away being other examples. Add the late late goals conceded against Man U and Coventry and our season could've looked so much different. Up front we've missed a few sitters too and are still trying too hard to walk the ball in rather than trust in our ability to strike the ball in and around the box.
I don't see all this as a lack of quality, we've got plenty of that its more decision making, which just makes it all the more frustrating. Experience tends to improve that and you have to remember that the likes of Gomes (both), Ait-Nouri, Doyle, Hugo B, Neto, Traore are all still a year or two short of their prime years.

Great comment mate. 👍
Realise that you can't be offside when the corner is delivered. My point was that if the players had still been in the same positions when Kilman headed it then offside would have been correct.
However they weren't. Between the delivery and the header the West Ham player moved towards the goal line playing Chirewa onside.
And my issue with VAR is not that it might lead to slightly more correct decisions, I think it probably does, just. It's the fact that the excitement of a goal is totally reduced.
Yesterday neither I nor the chap sitting next to me celebrated when Kilman scored, we simply said to each other "in 5 minutes or so we'll know if that was a goal or not". That, for me, is not why I watch football.

Have you got a link to the clip you’ve seen of him onside mate? Everyone I’ve seen shows Chirewa clearly the closest player to Fabianski.
However, no way he is either blocking his vision or impeding him in any way. Terrible decision

I've seen them several times. Chirewa is in an offside position from every angle I've seen it.
The goal should have stood though because Chirewa didn't impede Fabianski by stopping him moving or obstructing his vision of the ball at any point. He therefore isn't interfering with play.

Doyle looks handy so will no doubt be our first business of the summer. Neto likely stays now i think. Gomes probably gives us another season. Thought we would see Hugo Bueno going but with Ait-Nouri likely leaving then perhaps not.
The concern for me is Cunha who will surely attract attention also. With him we need forward additions, without him I have zero faith the club can bring in at least 2 very capable forwards.
I'm yet to be convinced by Hugo Bueno to be honest, so I think we need another left back in the summer if RAN goes. Unless we plan to go to a back four at some point and play Toti there.

Yeah i didn't understand the hype last year defensively to be honest. Decent prospect for sure but not a patch on Ait-Nouri at either end of the pitch.
Can see all of City, Liverpool and Arsenal being interested in RAN, he would surely improve all their squads.
It’s satisfying to know that some of us on ‘ere saw his potential to be playing at a higher level than Wolves, when some were questioning his ability and place in the side?

Still blows my mind. Said from day one he would be the best so far to come through Wolves. Never faltered on that view. Dude is scary gifted.

Agreed. Game completely turned on its head yesterday when he departed
Forest losing at Spurs today and only now above the relegation position on goal difference. Big game for them at home to Wolves next Saturday
Fear Nuno will do a number on us
When am I allowed to ask if we're missing the control of neves in the engine room, I enjoy the dynamism of our midfield but they're so quick to try a clever flick we miss the composure

Who knew we would miss the best player to pull on a Wolves shirt in a generation?
Maybe we should have gone down a familiar route to solving the problem of having no senior strikers available. In February Diego Costa signed a short term deal to join Brazilian top flight club Gremio. In his first 5 games he’s scored 7 goals
