its a win win for Spurs fans really.

In terms of iconic Spurs players Kane and King are up well up there for me.

From the 80's onwards something like Hoddle, Waddle and Gazza. Then Bale, Modric, maybe Van De Vaart?

Sure I have missed a few but they are first to come to me.

And yes get a couple tonight Harry. Always grateful.

Harry will probably get his penalty tonight,as usual against Arsenal.

Bale and Modric have gone on to be hugely successful after leaving Spurs, winning countless domestic/European trophies as well as driving their national teams to heights never seen before.

It just goes to show how successful a world class player can be when they leave a smaller team and go to a world class one, which is used to winning trophies every year.

Yes, you could say any old crap player could go to Real Madrid/Bayern etc and win trophies in their first season. You would have to be a monumental failure not to, but still they are getting to play at the right level, and with that comes trophies. Unless you are a complete failure, of course, and actively hinder what was previous an extremely successful team.

Credit to Bale and Modric where it is due

Both in the best in their retrospective positions for a period. Arguably Modric was the best in his position over a very long period. Wee magician he was.

Unlike some of you younger fans, I can go all the way back to Blanchflower, Mackay, Greaves, White, Jones, Smith, England, Peters, Chivers and Mullery to name a few. In slightly more modern times there was Ginola who was a joy to watch at times. Spurs have had so many top class individuals over the years and obviously Ardiles & Son compare equally with nearly all of them.

I wonder what we will be saying about Romero & Van De Ven in the years to come.

The same we say about Alderweireld and Vertonghen if they don't fecking win anything. Remember them? Shame really. They were decent

I rather shamefully neglected to mention Ledley in the original post, of course a legend. Most of the other players mentioned, although great, probably didn't have their finest days at our club, but elsewhere. I guess that's on Spurs as much as them.

And yeah, I don't go back to the 60's/70's era, but I'm sure the likes of Greaves, Blanchflower etc were iconic, I just didn't see them.

Oh I got the thinly veined message. Whilst I disagree to an extent what you implied with team trophies, I agreed with what you wrote on Modric and Bale. If team trophies were the only measure of the best players, Maxwell would be regarded as one of the best ever.

That 16/17 season they were unreal. I still believe as I said at the time, we should’ve signed VVD from Southampton and put him between them. A defence with them 3 would have been impeccable. And probably would’ve meant Dier was moved on earlier than he was in the end.

Great players all!
And I was old enough that my dad took me to WHL to see Alf Ramsey and Billy Nicholson play!
But the player who impressed me most was the captain, Ron Burgess.
