Of course, there's a long-term vision in terms of instilling a culture of excellence, investing in the fabric of the club, the stadium, the facilities, youth academy, etc. What I meant is that (if we're to believe what INEOS has said about having qualified professionals making decisions) in the absence of the new operational sporting hierarchy, there's not a vision in place with regard to the detailed sporting strategy, which is important in terms of bringing in a manager whose strengths and methods are a good fit with what we are trying to achieve. As I see it, until that more detailed footballing master-plan is in place, we're effectively looking at an interim manager who *might* take on the permanent job. Most world class managers these days look carefully at opportunities to see if the club is the right fit for them. At the moment, all United can do is speak in general terms about aspirations to have a culture of excellence, joined up decision making, etc - but not present a really compelling plan that says 'you're the right man to lead this forward'.
If I were one of the world's best managers, I'd probably elect to pass on an offer in those circumstances, and wait to see what United have to say when the whole sporting team and strategy has crystallised.
I'm always sceptical of any report that has us going for a manager because 'Ratcliffe rates him'. Ratcliffe will not be making that decision.

Well it doesn't does it? Winning the league in the Dutch league with their most famous club isn't a pre-requisite for the United job?
And I wanted ETH too. It wasn't because he won trophies there. It was because of the way his team played and especially in the Bernabeu that impressed me.
In hindsight I don't think it was down to ETH how they played but more the Ajax ethos that many of them had been playing since being 8/9 years old. De Jong, De Ligt Etc.
So you can change your mind on managers VC. I won't hide away from the fact I wanted him to replace Ole. It hasn't worked out.
And I wanted ETH too. It wasn't because he won trophies there. It was because of the way his team played

That maybe a more Ajax development thing rather than ETH implementing it.

..............
Good job for Chelsea that they didn't have your narrow-minded opinions on hiring a manager who had success with a lesser club like Porto.
Or us hiring a manager who had success with Aberdeen for that matter.
You really are an arrogant pr!ck.

That maybe a more Ajax development thing rather than ETH implementing it.
