Wolves v Luton Match Thread

As we have seen in the past, the problem with relying on such a wafer thin squad, is that they are playing too many minutes which inevitably leads to injuries and evidently running out of steam.

If, as looks likely, we lose a couple of our top players in the summer, we need to bring in at least 5 quality players that will all fight for a place in the starting eleven.

I can see GON losing patience with the club if they fail to support him in this respect. He deserves backing,

Luton have done better than I expected and have made a much better fist than Burnley and Sheffield Utd of trying to stay in the division. Rob Edwards has done well and they’re an aggressive team that clubs don’t like playing against.

Hope we go back to the 343 formation that’s served us well for most of the season. We’re going to need an emergency centre back. Maybe Lemina, or Doherty. I’d like to see Semedo and Ait Nouri as the wingbacks, Sarabia, Hwang and Cunha up front. In the centre of midfield I’d go for Gomes and Traore

In the away match at Luton the home team were given a controversial penalty when the ball rebounded from Joao Gomes’ leg onto his arm. Since that time GON has had conversations with the PGMOL to argue that it should not have been considered handball. As a consequence the rules on those kind of incidents are being rewritten and a similar handball will not result in a penalty in the future

Will we need an emergency centre back? Aren't Kilman, Toti and Santi Bueno available? These 3 plus Semedo and RAN, if available. 2 from Lemina, Gomes, Doyle and Traore, plus Cunha, Hwang and Sarabia if all fit. So, for me:

Sa
Semedo
Santi
Kilman
Toti
RAN
Gomes
Lemina or Doyle or Traore
Sarabia
Cunha
Hwang

That has to be the best selection we have in the squad, apart from Neto of course.

Just read the latest post on the Bournemouth thread (should have done that first). It does seem, therefore that an emergency centre back may be needed.

So if Lemina plays will it be as a centre back or in midfield? I think the only position he hasn't played is in goal. There's still a few games left.

Ruben Neves’ Saudi team won again today. They’ve now played 28, won 26, drawn 2, scored 86 and conceded 18. They’re 12 points clear at the top with 6 games left.

They did fall behind today after an hour but came back to win 3-1 with Neves getting the second with a penalty.

This season is the first time we’ve played Luton since 2013. That was in the FA Cup and they were a non league team. They beat us 1-0 and thoroughly deserved to. A few days later Solbakken was sacked. So something good came out of that

Expecting another home defeat this afternoon unfortunately, to extend our run to four games in the league and five in all competitions

As was stated on the last match thread, we’re in a period of relegation form. A truly shocking drop off in performances.

We look like we’re on the beach and we will be up against a fully motivated Luton team who will simply want it more.

Even now that we have Chunha and Hwang back it’s evident we have just run out of steam. Reasons are clear as day and hopefully will be addressed in the summer.

There's been a drop off in results, but two of those have been heavily influenced by VAR. The performance against Arsenal was decent and we deserved more from West Ham and Bournemouth.

I think Wednesday’s game was a big disappointment although we’d have got a point but for a wrong VAR call. Otherwise I think the poor run of results can be put down to us having all our best forwards injured

Reading that FIFA is changing its rule that league games cannot be played in a different country. So expect Premier League and other top European leagues to soon have matches played in USA and the far east

Agree we were decent against Arsenal. Thought we were off it in those other two games though, we could have been 2 or 3 nil down at half time in both.

GON has remarked that the Bournemouth match was our worst performance of the season. Make of that what you will.

In my opinion we deserved a point at best from the last three home matches.

Regardless of the VAR decision, we deserved nothing on Wednesday. We played the last twenty minutes against ten and still couldn’t score.

Agree that our forwards have run out of steam though, partly from playing too many minutes and partly from being rushed back from injury too soon. 👍

With Bournemouth and Brighton not playing today we could, with a win, end the day back in the top half of the table. Have to say though, for me, it will be a draw 1-1 which will leave us in 12th.
Disappointing end to the season.

1-1 for me.
Until we get at least one quality striker we will always struggle. How long now have we had to compromise and I'm afraid Hwang is not the answer. He cannot hold up play or even control the ball properly.
Management problem not his.
DJ is right, if GON doesn't get the backing he will be off and we are back to square one.

Always said Hwang was a great striker.

Humble pie.

Hwangs shot was gonna go wide at the near post, the deflection took it the other way

Hwang doing what he does best today. Playing on the shoulder and making runs into the channels. He's good in the penalty area and he is pretty good at timing runs in behind.
