Dire performance. Squad's been found out. So has
Farke. Some truly sh 1 te performances tonight. On
Bamford - who once again skates thanks to what some
think he is - he's 30+ and wasn't available again due
to yet another injury. The club's reliance on him as our
only true #9 borders on negligent.

So, yeah, he's experienced. Quite a few believe we're
better when he plays. Some have gone as far as saying
he's the only #9 capable of leading our line, despite us
cycling through a slew of managers who all played
different styles. Again though, he was injured yet again.

Crazy to think the best squad ever assembled has one
true #9 who's a walking mash unit.

We also have an overrated keeper in Meslier. He has
biscuit wrists and hasn't progressed the last two
seasons. We have an unbalanced squad full of square
pegs. That gets rescued by moments of brilliance.

Farke leaned too heavily on the same players all
season and left too many out to rot on the bench.
He had us playing some good looking football at
points. But it's all gone to sh 1 t now.

The mental make up of this team won't win the play offs.
So, what's left? Do we keep Farke? What happens with
the loanees who wanted out? What happens to Rutter?

Crees gone. Gnonto too. Archie? Probably. Rodon may
depart for a Prem team. Anthony bye. Piroe needs to be
shifted. Headaches galore to match the headache
caused by that performance tonight and the last few weeks.

If we had gone up, we probably would've set a new
record for lowest points gained as this squad needs
too many additions that we can't afford thanks to the
mess we're facing this summer.

Championship here we stay.

Agree heavilly with Batty.

Hindsight, signed too many Welsh players, losing 4 of them (5 if you include Kamara) at such a critical time ij March didn't help at all. Stood still in Jan once again whilst others worked. Seen this all before, its got Bielsa season 1 written all over it with Norwich playing the role of Derby who get beat by Southampton at Wembley. All 3 came down, 2 went up with us losing out to a newly promoted L1 side.

We've had a lot of luck this season and we'll need more of it with Ipswich at Hull and Cov.

Man City lose all their players to International breaks all the time. They have at least 4 England players. Can’t blame Int. Break, these are pampered athletes and should be back on it a month later!

When up against it in high pressure games, we’ve folded like a pack of cards and confidence is shot. QPR, like other teams we’ve played recently were fired up for it and thrived under pressure.

Can’t see any of these thriving in playoffs.

We looked like a 'relegation fodder' side last night (using the word team would contravene the trades dezcription act).

When Summerville, Rutter and Gnonto don't fire there is very little else.

You could have gone hunting in the middle of the park it was that 'open' - Archie and Gruev were totally awol.

Batty's point is fair - you can't say if only Bamford was playing when he's on the treatment table more often then not.

My biggest gripe is the so called 'Strong squad'. 5 major players go on International duty and it has a serious detrimental effect.
Most goals have come 3 or 4 players in my day, the rule was spread it around all the squad and it's a ridiculously low number from the backs to midfield.

The substitutions have generally been dire and desperate at times. Jadon Anthony is a good player but bringing him on at 80 minutes every now and again is pathetic.

Farke has let his 'go to' boys tire and there was no plan 'B'.

Awful, awful night but in hindsight not truly unexpected.

The better (by far) team deservedly won.

When your totally bossing games, week in week out due to a world class midfield of the likes of De Bruyne, Silva and Rodri you tire far far less easily.

This season Leeds a perfect example of how it’s always easier to be the chasing team than the team ahead. Southampton as well. No pressure and they’re flying, as soon as we are in a position to lose something they lose.

What Leeds need and always have needed is some players who can handle the pressure and get them over the line.

Pablo could deal with it, so could Ayling, Cooper, Klich. They learnt to deal with it but they could. Maybe some of these players will be better equipped next season to do that.

For the summer - sign a proper striker, sign a tall defender who can score from set pieces and get a midfielder in who can go box to box

Haven't said that, have just said that when Piroe played you can see what we're missing from Bamford and that Farke has point in us having not that much experience all over pitch and Bamford has it Piroe doesn't.

Trying to deflect away from awful performance and somehow make everything Bamford's fault is wrong.

There was a player on display last night who can do a good job as a number 10. I heard he would have been interested in a move and I know there's the London factor but the final piece in the jigsaw?

Ilias Chair?

We'd done our work on our set pieces, what are they working on? Never seen a worse set of corners from any team ever. Is the objective to pass the ball to the opposition?
Why doesn't Firpo take the corners he is the only one in the team who can cross a ball.

It was a general comment Jonty not at your OP, got a bit irked reading some of the comments on the match thread last night. Along the lines that having Paddy there would make all the difference. We could have had Pele there but it would have been pointless when the other 10 have decided to be a Sunday morning side with hangovers.

The corners last night were a perfect example of how we fail to address obvious issues and just hope things will come right somehow.

Their corners were all flat, fast right into the danger area middle of the six yard box or under the crossbar. They eventually scored from 1.

Ours on the other hand either, do not beat the first man or are floated way beyond the far post and past everybody. The comments on here about getting tall players in who can score from corners is all very well but if we cannot deliver the ball into the danger area what is the point.

The annoying thing is it has been this way since the Bielsa days, teams have no qualms giving away loads of corners against us because they know we will do nothing with them.

I'm still split between wanting Ipswich to put us out of our misery and win tonight and virtually be guaranteed automatic promotion and desperately hanging on to the remote chance Ipswich fold under the pressure like Leeds have and we still manage to collapse over the line in a glorious remarkable euphoric manner against Southampton next weekend.

My logical/rational side says stop torturing yourself but either way massive, huge, enormous changes are going to be required this summer whatever league we end up in.

Promotion with this set of players when the dust settles clearly shows deficiencies galore and I think we would be looking at a rebuilding job of virtually a whole new first 11 similar to Forest when they got promoted....That is going to cost a lot of money which I'm not sure with even the best wheeling/dealing and transfer juggling in the world the club has got the ability to pull off successfully but maybe I'm underestimating The 49ers so the jury is out on that one.

Missing out on promotion and pretty much the same scenario Regards rebuilding a new team except with significant funds from likely star player exits that would at least give Leeds the opportunity to have another decent crack at promotion with a high quality championship team with let's hope better mental and physical stamina than what we have unfortunately witnessed recently with last night culminating in the absolute pits and the poorest display this season.

It's still been a season I've enjoyed and despite Farke in my opinion getting it wrong on selection and substitutions during the most pressurised/business end of this promotion campaign I still want him to be our manager next season.... Come on Hulllllllll.

Daniel Fsrke has done a great job stabilising the club and getting us into the position where automobile promition was possible but was so disappointed watching him just stand or sit there silent.
No shouting at the players, no encouragement, no changing tactics when it was obvious the midfield was bring overun and what on earth do they do in practising corner kicks.
Haven't felt as despondent as this in a long time and we certainly are falling apart again.

One aspect I'm not happy about is 'we've achieved 90 points in 45 games - so what?

I think it was Steve Ovett, years ago, who said along the lines, 'I love to race and I race effectively to win, breaking world irecords is an aside/bonus'.

The point is this team has to learn to race, it doesn't matter if you get auto's on 80 or 100 points as long as you better the competition.

Reads like the Nuremberg trials on here, holding players to account…as usual the ‘wise after the event’ article.
There is really no need to single out players or coach…it was a team failure, coach is fine…players failed to perform. It’s not rocket science. This fixation with Bamford in the team, or out of the team, is a story from the local mental institution…he’s not epic, he’s more like Hilda Ogden, formerly of Coronation Street.

Piroe is not a player for Leeds. A terrible player. Batty why is your first c9mment even to blame Bamford. Its weird. Is it because you have been found out that your call of play Piroe as a 9 has been shown up to be an awful call. Bamford is out with an impact injury rather than a muscle injury. It had to be Joseph that replaced him not Piroe. Farke went on a massive rant about how Piroe can't play as a number 9 and now calls him his natural successor.

Kamara had to start instead of Gray with Gray being moved to RB. Yeah you hinder us a bit offensively but at least you will have more control of the game which we completely lacked yesterday. Farke needs to prove himself the last games of the season otherwise I'd be tempted to get rid.

posted on 27/4/24

X aka Twitter is awash with Farke out if we don't go up which I do not advocate.... but but but I do agree his touchline persona/body language recently has not looked good and I wouldn't be totally surprised if The 49ers decide to make a managerial change to someone like Steve Cooper who I wouldn't have a problem
with if he was Farke's successor but I've read a few on here slag him off so maybe not a universally popular choice but tactically and having a plan B Cooper may be what The 49ers see as an upgrade on DF.... time will tell.

posted on 27/4/24

Farke has been good at trying to keep an even keel in very tricky waters, particularly first 6 to 8 games - credit where it's due.

My concern has been astute substitutions and the use, or lack use from the bench. To a certain extent it's shades of MB as when the expected plan is flagging what do we do next - was it the Blackburn game where he threw on 4 attackers after 65+ minutes?

posted on 27/4/24

The 49ers are not stupid despite rumours to the contrary,
and the more I think about our dramatic collapse which is what it is, the owners will have certainly noticed the same and they can't afford a repeat showing next season and so I think it's 50/50 whether DF keeps his job if as looks likely we fail to get promoted this season.

posted on 27/4/24

I’m not gonna say Farke out because I don’t think that will make us better next season. I think we go up automatically next year with Farke, but he deserves criticism for how he’s managed the last month. Not used his squad well enough and his man management clearly hasn’t lead to calm heads on the pitch.

His last 3 seasons at this level he’s got 90 points in all of them. He’s not dealt well with the pressure and intensity of managing Leeds in a run in, but it took Bielsa a second go as well, he didn’t manage that pressure well first season either. We say players learn with this experience, we should say the same for Farke, he’s never managed a situation like this at a club like this before.

Next season, Summerville goes, so does Gnonto. I’d be amazed if anyone came in for Rutter tbh and Gray looks a long way from PL ready at this moment. So we are looking at a similar squad to now with replacements for two of our wingers. I think we’d get 90 points again.

^^^

Heat of the moment.

My Bamford comment should've been toward the end
of my post. He wasn't at fault for anything last night.
Because he was injured and unavailable in crunch time
yet again. And still people make him out to be the one
singular reason why we succeed.

Bamford wouldn't have stopped us losing last night.

That was my not-well-made point.

As for the rest of your made up comment, I've said on here since the early part of the season that Piroe's not a true #9. He's a hybrid 9/10. He's scored a few goals.
But, he's just another expensive square peg.

I've been asking for Joseph to be given more chances
and starts. He at least is a #9. He can do what Bamford
does to an extent. But Farke must think he's too young.
He clearly knows where the goal is.

My biggest issue is the club have not added at least
one more true #9 (who can actually hit the target with
traditional head and feet) to a squad that has been
crying out for it for three seasons.

We once again sat on our hands in January believing
our only true #9, Bamford, was all we needed. And it
looks like it's bit us in the ar$ e again.

So, again, for the record, I'm not blaming PB for last
night. But, he was injured yet again when Farke needed
him.

Last night was on Farke and some absolutely dire
performances.
