Ha, I was hoping they'd give the job to Roy Keane TBH
I would be concerned that Gareth’s biggest quality - his decency and ability to impress that upon the squad - is far trickier at club football.
At International level, he can leave out the bad eggs and have good control over what happens in a short space of time with the squad together.
At club level, we’re dealing with bad eggs on long contracts and high wages, and players that have played together for a while now… with player power far more of a thing.
As for his brand of football. Meh. At best he might make us hard to beat.
😂
It ain't going to happen. The response from the fanbase has been of utter disgust at the mere suggestion he's on the shortlist FFS.
INEOS would be burying themselves from the off with this appointment.

Good article this. He does write some good articles often this guy.
Its what Ive been thinking recently after the initial WTveryF of hearing about the possibility of Southgate becoming Uniteds next manager, in that he fits totally the remit that INEOS will want from their first manager, to kick-off project Man United.
Since the relief of news of the take-over and although it was in-part and not complete, it has signalled the beginning of the end of the Glazer circus that has turned United into an embarrasing chitshow of a cashcow. During the last 5 months we have since seen and heard a lot of talk from Uncle Jim in the media with his huge promises and saying all the right things about his United credentials and personal visions of what he COULD do and achieve at United, that apart from 'getting back to where the club should be on the pitch' even includes regenerating a large area of South Manchester. Facking Hell mate let's start from the beginning first.
So its time to walk now, so lets stop the talk. And we have now got to start with the football team and deal with chit that over the post Fergie years has dragged this club down to a Burnley and Sheffield Utd level when it comes to the sport. United fans all around the World post opinions on SM channels and chatrooms like this, quoting tactical appraisals and systems they read in various football magazines that they kind of believe will 'make Uniteds team win'... when what we really need right now is somebody to lift the gloom and actually flush out the crap that everbody knows is blocking the system. And I agree that this is exactly what Gareth did at England and because his close relationships with Ashworth and Brailsford they will almost certainly see Southgate as a pragmatic answer to their initial conundrum. Rightly or wrongly.
What we as supporters, especially those in the ground, can't do is turn on INEOS IF they do go down the Southgate route, because if its another war against the new owners as it has been against the outgoing ones, the club is facked. We will find out soon.
Southgate will be an inspiring choice to take over after England are knocked out on penalties by Spain in the Euro quarters.
Tuchel is far from perfect but if we end up turning him down and bringing in Southgate we’ll probably see many of us pining for the Glazers for the first time ever.
Whilst Southgate wouldn't be my choice, if it was him, we should be giving him our full support.
It's easy to look at the attacking players England have and say Southgate should be doing this or that, but the England job is such a poisoned chalice, and I don't think he has been terrible there. Of course club management is different to international, but he seems to be a good man-manager and have good communication skills.
And who knows - the players may respond positively to his ways and we won't recognise them from what they have been producing under ETH.

Be annoyed for a few months. But by then he'll get sacked as he'll be completely found out
I don't think the next managerial appointment is all that important to be honest. Whoever we bring in (assuming replacing ETH is imminent) will have a squad full of personnel issues which will not be resolved in the summer window alone, and an upstairs sporting department not yet fully in place or in place long enough to start to get us on track.
Southgate certainly would not be my pick for the United job, but we'd be a hell of a lot more solid defensively with him setting us up, and to his credit he seems to have a real knack for cultivating a positive environment and sporting culture among his players as is evident with his England work. He's also not been shy to drop so called favourites, though I recognise that this is easier done with England than at club level.
So if we viewed the next managerial appointment as someone who can come in, steady the ship over the next season or two as the squad building & recruitment process [hopefully] makes serious leaps and bounds and get us looking coherent as a team from back to front, then someone like Southgate might not be a terrible option at all. I don't see him as a long term answer that will get us competing for PL titles again, but we're probably 3 or 4 transfer windows from being able to compile a squad capable of doing that anyway, regardless of the manager. But as a more pragmatic short to medium term option I can see the attraction.
