Red Russian really deserves a better platform than this one here. Really impressive stuff from him. Shame more people aren't as well informed.

Agreed. He's one of the best posters on here. Could you ask him to unfilter me by the way? Thanks.

I too rate RR. But everyone is entitled to an opinion, and being literate doesn't make right every time. More ofte perhaps but not every time.
I always read RR, and sometimes he changes my opinion, sometimes not.

Speaking of McDonnell, my mate has the same name and did the odd bit of freelance work for The Guardian. He kept getting paid the other McDonnell’s cheques for his Guardian articles.

The Tories are no where near the centre ground. Hence why the opinion polls look so bleak for them. Labour probably are hence why it looks so good for them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rachel Reeves policies for housing are to use state funds for deposits and relax affordability criteria.

This sounds a lot like every other chancellor over the past 2 decades that's been firmly of the wealthy and used state funding to inflate the property bubble doesn't it? How can you defend this as centre ground?

He should approve of the redistribution of wealth

John McDonnell is a grate man, I wish he was still our shadow chancellor instead of the walking Tory robot that is Rachel Reeves

I doubt he's going to unleash a left wing utopia but I also think he's almost certainly going to improve things.

Renationalisation of rail and creating GB energy are two things that alone will help thousands of people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As someone who has worked in the energy industry for 20 years, I can tell you the creation of GB Energy isn’t going to help anyone unless you reform the entire UK wholesale energy market. GB Energy is a political gimmick and Labour know it

If I lived in England, I would be really disillusioned about who to vote for. It 110% would not be Tory, however, I have no clue what Labour/Lib Dem actually stand for from a policy perspective.

I agree with RR's post with his reasoning why Starmer is not giving anything away. However, he has to give the electorate something tangible to get behind, other than something about non-doms, which although worth doing, will raise little capital. I don't see a coherent policy agenda.

Regarding Brexit, I believe if we had another vote, Remain would win comfortably. Labour will be very hesitant to get behind another vote for two key reasons 1. The right wing media landscape and a rehash of 2019 as mentioned previously, and 2. If they allowed another vote on Brexit, but not Indyref2, they can say goodbye to Scottish voters.

if you want to know what Labour stands for, find out.

Mainstream UK news media and newspapers aren.t going to help you. (Apart from James OBrien on LBC).

He is a Tory who has no real interest in changing the country for ordinary people, he’ll just maintain the status quo for the establishment. I think he’ll struggle once in power, people will expect meaningful change, which he won’t deliver, and people will become dissatisfied quickly. Which could usher in a much more right wing government in 5 years. He is at best David Cameron/ Osborne style, and is probably more to the right in certain aspects. Don’t vote Labour or Tory, vote green or independent if you want to see more progressives. They obviously won’t get in, but it will put labour under pressure, which we saw in the locals

With the first past the post system, voting green / indep will do nothing in a general election.

Until we are a bit more grown-up about our voting system and overall approach to politics, things won't really change regardless of who is in charge

until people stop using excuses like the above to vote for these two sh1tty mainstream parties they will carry on wrecking the country and getting away with it

green is the only decent left wing choice

Do they even have any policies on a national level?

posted on 11/5/24

Why don't you go to their website. They've got the clearest communication as to what they're all about. Labour is always blabbing on about the Tories in every section.

Yes they do have national policies like privatisation of the railways etc. but they want to create more local community based solutions to problems also.

Really it comes down to whether the party connects with you and shares the same principles.

posted on 11/5/24

And they're also for proportional representation so to state they'll do nothing in a first past the post system as a reason not to vote for them is a good reason to vote for them.
