We do need some experience in midfield though.
Palhinha still looks to be in good shape and unlike Casemiro who had won everything already he's probably not looking at slowing down just yet. For the right price he'd be a good signing and as Busby says we badly need some experience in the team if CAS Varane and few others are leaving. We will be woefully short if we don't.
It's just the prices / wages that are key to bringing in older players. It doesn't mean you should avoid them. Robin Van Persie was a good signing and he was 29/30 wasn't he? Zlatan even did pretty well for us too and he was 34.

Hasn’t there been quite a bit of noise about the Saudis wanting Casemiro? No idea if it’s true but he’s the exact profile they love. Same goes for Varane.
The trickier ones to move on will be Rashford, Sancho, Antony and Slabhead.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sancho - thanks to the CL run, I guess there could be credible buyers. If Sancho is willing to compromise on his salary (i.e. if he's keen enough to leave United) then I could see us succeeding in getting a modest transfer fee. Alternatively, it's not out of the question that a new manager like Tuchel would back himself to create a system that harnesses Sancho's abilities while mitigating his weaknesses.
Maguire - I don't think he's on the for sale list anymore, given that we're probably losing Varane, Lindelof and Evans in the summer (and must have doubts about Lisandro playing 50 matches next season).
Rashford - reckon he's not a player we'd actively look to offload, unless the opportunity arose to raise a big fee, so a sale is unlikely.
Antony - we can only offload if we write off tens of millions.
Palhinha would be the same issue all over again, he might care more than Casemiro but he's more short-termism.
Joao Neves would be the one but the fee is likely to be extortionate.
Onana only rated by guys that watched MOTD for 6 months when he had a period of good form. That he's a sub for Everton tells you all you need to know.
We would need experienced heads in the side if we wanted to turn a talented young squad into a title-challenging one, but realistically we're a few seasons away from that. Assuming for a moment that Palinha is of the quality to provide that quality and leadership, by the time we're good enough to challenge, it will be time to replace him. From where I'm standing, we need to focus investment on players who we expect to be better in three years than they are today. They'll be more experienced in 2027 by the time we are peaking as a team, as well as more valuable than when we paid for them.

I've been impressed with him when I've watched him, which isn't enough to form a rigorous opinion of him. But as for "he's a sub for Everton", from what I can see he has started 22 games and come on as a sub in a further 7. He's also had some injury issues this season, and his recent three matches coming on as a second half sub follow a match when he was on the bench, which raises the question of whether that was fitness-related or tactical. In short, people can make superficial judgements in favour of a player they don't know that much about, and I think you've just made an superficial judgement in dismissing Onana.

Me too. Along with his former Sporting manager. 😁
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By all accounts Liverpool struggled to prize him away?
Thiago Motta is doing a very good job, he’s young, has a flexible approach to games and apparently he’s build a great team spirit at Bologna.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By which accounts? Liverpool lost interest in him after he made all sorts of demands. He then tried to get the West Ham job, which didn't work out either, resulting in him apologising to Sporting and their fans.

A lot of Everton fans don't even rate him.
There's certainly nothing about him to suggest 50m player.
There are some good options out there this summer; Frimpong, Zubimendi, Olise and Maaton have affordable release clauses, Adarabioyo is abailable on a free, you'd think Ratcliffe can get us a good deal for Todibo.
I don't think we have to be spending £60m+ on players, unless they're absolutely the right player.

-----------------------------------------------------
Firstly, on what basis are you judging Everton fan attitudes? Sounds pretty anecdotal to me. Secondly, a lot of fans are morons.
If we are targeting players from PL clubs we are going to get ripped off royally. We can't afford it.
We have an unbelievable number of players who we basically want rid of, and it's not going to happen in one season. We need minimum a forward, combative midfielder and centre-back. I don't think anyone really knows how much we have to spend, but it'll be difficult to get proven EPL quality for £50 million each in those 3 positions.
And of course there is the risk of scouting for cheaper options but not knowing if they will adapt to EPL etc.
And more likely a new manager to bed in. Interesting times ahead............
Lewis Cook from Bournemouth?
We need Pascal Gross and Zubimendi.
I wish we'd gone for Locatelli when he left Sassuolo. I think he'd still be a good option and he's still a good age.
If their injuries weren't a concern, there's Bennacer and Exequiel Palacios too.
There really aren't too many standout options which seems to be true of a number of positions at the moment.
Locatelli’s pretty average now isn’t he?
Yeah I've heard his form hasn't been the best but I've seen him show glimpses in some of the games I've seen of Juventus this season and I think there's still a player there.
I'm not sure whether the role change has had a big impact or whether it's playing under Allegri but I think a new lease of life in a different environment could see him flourish again.
With that being said the current environment at United wouldn't exactly help him.

Sancho might come back yet. No way we will write off a huge chunk of Sanchos fee, or pay him £150k per week to play for someone else.
The owners will expect the manager
