Daz, yeah, though I haven't done the usual oppo fan thing and taken the highest reported figure regarding earnings. I took the ballpark figure reported before bonus payments.
Bottom line is basically that it'll be very hard, no matter who you're hawking your top earners to, to fetch anything approaching a decent fee for players who everyone knows you're gagging to get off the wage bill. Like you said, you need another rebuild, have new investors who'll likely want to make some goodwill gestures, and need a lot of players off your books.
You might have better negotiatiors and fetch better fees than I'm giving you credit for, who knows, but from where I sit it seems like pretty wishful thinking.
I've just imagined a counter-scenario where you hire Southgate, Maguire becomes the first name on the team sheet, and you bring in Jordan Henderson to prop up the midfield.
Oh yeah I know, was just commenting on the general unreliability of wages that are reported in the media.
I do agree it’ll be difficult to achieve all of that, my point is that I don’t think it’s necessarily that important if we have to take a bit of a hit. The original discussion was about getting £100m in fees, I’ve merely pointed out that we could go some way to reaching that arbitrary figure with just moving on the sheer number of low value players we have in the squad.

Maguire’s an interesting one. With a year left on his contract, and his reputation not nearly as bad as it was 12 months ago, he could be a player that we could get a decent fee for. Issue is whether he wants to leave, but cb will be one of the main positions we’ll be looking to spend this summer, and he might still have an eye on his England career - he might need to start playing regularly if he has ambitions of playing at the world cup, and Southgate may not be there after the Euros, which means he’ll have a lot to prove to the next manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
hard to imagine that anyone is gonna pay him nearly 1m a month so I dont think he will have any reason to leave, still gets into the England squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Players do take pay cuts. I’ve already suggested why he might want to leave, especially as he’s always struck me as a player that really wants to play football. He’s in the England squad for now, but Southgate is likely leaving after the Euros, that obviously changes things for Maguire.
"I can't see us getting rid of any of our FBs, as it's a slightly less urgent area than elsewhere."
Have to disagree here, Frimpong and Maatsen have very reasonable release clauses and are an upgrade on anything we have. If we can get £15m-£20m for AWB it's a no brainer.
We need a left back and a right back. Need to get rid of AWB and Malacia.

I’ve literally said twice why.
Take Rashford, for example. As much as his nominal transfer value says €60M (transfermarkt), his wages have been reported at anywhere between £300k-375k/week, and he's under contract until 2028.

There are plenty of players that should be up for grabs that could bring in £100m

Not being funny, but United pay huge wages.
Who's going to want to match the wage demands of players under contract who've underperformed or in some cases barely even featured? It's something every club will take into account when sitting down to negotiate a deal.
Either you sell at knockdown prices to compensate for the wages, or in some cases you might even need to release players just so you can get them off your books.
Take Rashford, for example. As much as his nominal transfer value says €60M (transfermarkt), his wages have been reported at anywhere between £300k-375k/week, and he's under contract until 2028.
Who's going to offer him that sort of wages, that Rashford would actually be willing to join, and stump up that kind of fee to go with it?
Do you think Rashford will accept to lower his wage demands by 30% or more just to please United? Is he going to say, yeah, I'll give up on millions of pounds that I'm guaranteed by contract, just so United can fetch a feee close to my valuation?
Think twice.

As IOAG says, I think that’s unlikely.
The other aspect is that you’ll still need a 23 man squad. There are 9 or 10 players there, that even if they say they’ll leave (which I doubt in at least half those cases) you still need a squad of 23 do that means replacing them.

he still gets over 20 games a season for Man Utd. I think at his age he will want to milk as much money as possible and I dont see anyone offering anywhere near 1m a month
And your claims he wants to milk as much money as possible and hardly play is guesswork ffs.
Mine’s educated guess work, based on what I know of the player and his playing situation with his club and country.

well its a pretty common theme and it comes hand in hand with other teams willing to pay him wages that are anywhere near comparable.
Mine is educated guesswork on the basis that fans have wanted Maguire out since he came in and he is still there picking up his 200k a week. You dont think Man Utd have been trying to move him on to anyone that would take him?

Last season was the only time we tried to move him on, but we couldn’t make an agreement with West Ham. We regularly pay off the difference between a player’s new contract and what was remaining on their United one. He could could take a pay cut and still get that £200k remaining (he wouldn’t get that next season anyway).

He’s started 18 league games because of our injury crisis in defence. He started 8 last season. His numbers will go down on this one because we’ll be going for dff we defenders in the summer. He may be happy with that, which is fine if he wants to stick about and hardly play. But Maguire obviously has regular game time as an incentive to leave the club, daft to suggest otherwise.

Can't see Greenwood bringing in more than £30m with the sсumbag deduction from the price. Not really seeing who else United want to lose who brings in good money.
Unless losses are cut on Anthony and Hojlund, some young players like Garnacho and Mainoo are allowed to leave or you let Fernandes go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, you did make money selling the racist Suarez, so you never know.
He’s played marginally more than Jonny Evans, guarantee you he won’t be playing that much next season, unless lightening strikes twice.

what if Southgate stays on, what if a different manager thinks Maguire is the answer (i dont believe this is the case but they are also just made up scenarios that haven't happened) who is to say Southgate doesnt win the euros and becomes england manager. Like I said have you got any actual incentives rather than guesswork?

Playing regular football is the obvious. But I’ve given very likely scenarios regarding England.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
they do if they have an incentive to, Harry still gets some games for Man Utd, still gets in the england squad what is his incentive to leave?

well when that happens your point could be valid but as of now its not, its guesswork.
he still gets over 20 games a season for Man Utd. I think at his age he will want to milk as much money as possible and I dont see anyone offering anywhere near 1m a month

20 games is fack all.

As IOAG says, I think that’s unlikely.
The other aspect is that you’ll still need a 23 man squad. There are 9 or 10 players there, that even if they say they’ll leave (which I doubt in at least half those cases) you still need a squad of 23 do that means replacing them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We disagree. No problem. Let's just see.
Onana. Bayindir.
Shaw.
Martinez, New CB, Maguire, Kambawala.
Dalot, AWB.
Mainoo, Mount, McTom, Bruno, new CM.
Sancho, Garnacho.
Amad, New winger.
New CF, Hojlund.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well there are only 20 players there and you’ve listed half as being sold to raise funds

To be fair, you did make money selling the racist Suarez, so you never know.

He’s played marginally more than Jonny Evans, guarantee you he won’t be playing that much next season, unless lightening strikes twice.
