SA hammered Afghanistan and finally make it to a major final.

Hope Gulbadin is ok, that injury looked nasty.

Have no idea how he played through the pain, well he hardly played in semi, but you get what I mean.

Why is the final on Saturday? Most ICC events have finals on a Sunday. If the final was on a Sunday then surely it would be fine to have a reserve day.

Shame for Afghanistan to lose like that.

Does this mean India go straight to the final if there's no play?

Yep and they were allocated this ground and date no matter what happened. Always one rule for India.

This world cup has been so badly organised.

That rule was in place before the start of the tournament. It wasn't introduced since India topped the group. Had Pakistan topped the group, they'd also progress to the final if the game is washed out. It's the same rule for everyone but Kash being the hypocrite that he is, wont accept that.

India were given the location and date on the most spin friendly venue in WI regardless where they finished in the top 4. That should not be allowed to happen. Those are the facts. One rule for India and another rule for the rest.

No they wouldn’t. This game was always reserved for India.

ALL venues were selected before the start of the tournament. There was no guarantee that India would even qualify out of their group, let alone top it. You can turn around and claim everything is fixed i.e. South Africa were assigned Tarouba to assist their seamers against Afghanistan to make it fit your agenda. Try taking off your anti-India blinkers for a change you obsessed nut job.

Whether it would have backfired on India or not is irrelevant though, as you shouldn't have different rules for different semi-finals based solely on maximising TV audiences.

One nation having a pre-determined venue whilst everyone else's is based on performance is a complete joke.

India topping the group made no difference to where they’d play in the semis. All that would have changed if they’d finished second would be that they’d face SA, rather than England.

That would be correct if it were even true. The only different rule between the semi-finals is the reserve day as there would be no rest day for the teams in the second semi-final i.e. England and India before the final.

This whole "InDia wErE AssiGneD tHE stADiUm" is just your usual Pakistani propaganda they usually spout when they get battered by India.

The rules have been in place since the start of the tournament, just because they are favouring India at the moment does not mean they were designed to do so.

Let me simple this down for Piney

At the start of the tournament did India know where they would play the semi should they be successful in reaching as one of the final 4?

Did England know at the beginning of the competition where they would be playing the semi should they be successful as one of the final 4?

If India finished 2nd in the Super 8s, where would they have played?

The same venue as today. It was predetermined that India would play in this semis slot before the tournament.

posted on 27/6/24

If they were guaranteed to play in a particular venue even if they came 2nd and everyone had to work around it. How is that fair?

posted on 27/6/24

Wouldn’t this format and qualification have to be voted/approved by all boards? I thought they did, at least according to ESPNCricInfo. This is not the first time teams have been assigned venues. They do it to help visiting fans book tickets and hotels in advance. Happens in other sport as well.

Yes, this was very poorly organised World Cup. Reminds me of 2007 ODI World Cup. The finals have been disaster.

posted on 27/6/24

It's not just about the reserve day though, it's that India were given this semi-final regardless of whether they came 1st or 2nd in their group which automatically gives them an advantage over their opponents because they have more time to plan for this venue and pitch.

posted on 27/6/24

I mentioned this is the 2011 World Cup too. India and SL always got home quarter finals regardless of where they finished in their groups. I’ve never liked this. It should be based on performance.

It isn’t, that’s the point. It was done so that it suited the tv viewership in India.
