He did a great job in getting them promoted with over 100 points. I’m not sure any manager would have kept them in the PL with that squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he was given money, 100m. Plenty of managers have kept their teams up with less, or certainly made a better fist of things than 24 points. He also was given plenty of money, certainly far more than other championship teams to build that 100 points team.
Hes insisted all season on playing the same way despite getting smashed repeatedley. Thats not bold thats madness.
I actually really like the guy, always have even in his playing days. Always seemed like a decent bloke but I really dont get the hype, especially to the point where it lands him 1 of the biggest jobs on the planet.
Tbf I do think Burnley were well coached, but had fack all quality. They spent loads too.
How Kompany has attracted Bayern though, unbelievable. They must be insanely desperate.
They're desperate and he comes with good references. Being bezzies with Pep n that must help
Maresca been linked to Chelsea too
people should be all over these relegated jobs, take over a club with a massive financial advantage over the competition and if you get them up whilst averaging 60% possession you can go to a CL club straight away apparently

You’ve got to be foreign as well. Russell Martin is the possession king of the Championship, but he’ll have to wait for the Chelsea job until he’s coached Brighton.

I think he made some mistakes and didn't spend the money that well, but ultimately whenever I saw them they looked decent enough but couldn't finish anything and then gave away goals for fun at the other end. So I think that is down to lack of quality, but again that's partly on him.
A couple of months ago OGS was linked to the Bayern job.

Pretty fair comment that. You’d imagine bayern have done their homework and see something that’s hidden by a manager at the arrrse end of the league trying to make do against clubs with fountains of cash. Might not be as mad an appointment as it seems…. time will tell
Based on who they were linked with before Kompany, clearly there was no specific profile of manager that they were looking for
I wonder if he can succeed where Poch, Mourinho, Conte, Tuchel and Southgate have all failed, by winning a trophy with Harry Kane.
There are a lot of manacoaches out there that could do well with Bayern, the problem is the people upstairs, if you think England have some bad, don't swap because they are the problem!..
Ask yourselves why so many top manacoaches have said no to them, it's not down to the players because they're not that bad, its because one or two in suits have to much to say and that's exactly what they do!..
Bayern have seen what Arteta has done to shartnal and thought “Kompany also worked with Pep…”
Kompany's problem this season was he set up like Burnley were team going to be posing the problems.
When they were that side he did remarkably well so it may work at Bayern.
That said he just spend a season ignoring the reality of his teams place in the pecking order and was punished for it. That would be worrying.
The people that make these decisions are in hem for a reason, OK, or every appointment works out, but they are able to see things that supporters don’t.
To give a counter example: Frank Rijkaard relegated with Sparta, first time in club history even if iirc, but got hired straight away by Barcelona. The results and especially the style of football are history...
Bayern top brass probably see something in his football and man management that can be transplanted into a team with more quality (and diva's) pretty well.
Out of curiosity, where are all the rumours about Kompany originating? I just read about the rumours on the Beeb website, but they don't quote any sources.
I suppose ultimately Bayern will have considered would Pep or any other so called top coach have done any better at Burnley and they must think with better quality players at his disposal Kompany has what it takes to succeed.
Fluent in German, played in the Bundesliga and apparently Bayern like his football philosophy.
Could be a total disaster or a master stroke
Just seems a bit desparate as they've clearly tried to bring in several other managers before Kompany, all with completely different styles of management which would suggest Bayern don't really know what they want.
If being fluent in German and having played in the Bundesliga for a couple years are factors then you'd have quite a few managers to choose from.
The Rijkaard comparison doesn't really work as Barca have always been very clear in what they want in a manager and while Rijkaard never played for them previously he managed in a style that suited Barca.
Bayern clearly aren't as strong as they have been in the past and the running of the club seems a bit of a mess. I suspect part of the appeal of Kompany is his connection to Pep but that means little. It's a tricky job in that the minimum requirement is the league title but that isn't certain with the rise of Leverkusen. He probably won't be terrible but he also won't be good enough, especially in Europe.
He didn't get Burnley relegated.
That honour belongs to the board, game
players, and some bad luck.
And also largely down to the manager and how he decided to set up, don't think there was much bad luck. The board gave Kompany around £100m to spend in the summer.
