Should be a lifetime ban if found guilty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How about if the ref forgives him and he gets engaged to the ref? People deserve second chances.

This is possibly Barry's finest moment.

(Those calling for a lifetime ban could maybe consider toughening up rather than getting offended by every little indiscretion.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is also superb

Will it shut RDD up though, that is the question.

I’m sure he’s got plenty more questions

Even if charges are dropped, he should be tainted for life. There is never, ever smoke without fire.

posted on 24/5/24

If the claims are true he’s f-cked. Separately they really need to ban betting from football, it’s a disease, especially in the UK.

You know the answer to that, VC

What if Paqueta and the ref were just doing roll play?

I think people get away with worse and allowed to return to football. A while back I read that some guys involved in UEFA corruption were only banned 4 years and are now back in football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A player in the lower leagues was just banned for 10 games for ONE charge similar to the four that Paqueta is facing.

Without seeing the evidence, a huge spike in bets for him to get booked on his home island, as well as the blatant fouls leading to a booking are damning.

I like the odd flutter, makes the game more interesting, Matthew McConaughey once compared gambling on a sport to getting a ticket to the game, which makes sense.

Those who have an issue with gambling will find something else to fuel their addiction.

Not necessarily. He could have been lazing about on the couch, for example.

It’s match fixing rather than betting and they will hammer him for it.

I just don’t get it, could probably have secured a £100k a week five year contract worth £25m.

Unless theybuave communications between him and those who placed these bets, I fail to see howbtjey can prove beyond reasonable doubt, that he instructed those betting.

Someone made a good point on Talksport. The guy is a hothead and gets booked for silly things often.

I don't think I've ever used the expression 'hoist by his own petard' in my life, but this textbook example might be a good place to start.

I’ve used it a few times with RDD, as it happens with him so regularly.
