Would you swap 2nd place for FA cup trophy?

It's no wonder Arsenal have never won a CL. Arsenal fans mentality of being happy to participate in the CL each year over winning a trophy must filter onto the pitch

As a Spurs fan I would rather have United’s season. But if I were say a Liverpool fan I would probably choose Arsenals.

Arsenal have won a few FA cups recently so I can see why they wouldn’t be too bothered.

As for Spurs, we seem to have zero desire to win a cup
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. If you're most of the other top teams you'd take Arsenal's season but at Spurs where winning something, anything, has become the top priority, then we'd take United's season all day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would take FA cup over qualifying for a competition they have no chance in winning.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool or Spurs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arsenal have no chance of winning.

We have a champions wall which gets updated when you win a trophy. You can't add finishing top 4 on that.

United fans have had a horrendous banter season but they finish on a high and it is a memory for life.

Arsenal had a chance of winning it, just like last year. I wouldn't say they bottled it like last year but had they beaten Villa at home they'd have won. It was their only loss in their last 18 games and Villa were hardly in great form then.

Exactly, we have had title challenges recently and played plenty of CL football, and yes I enjoyed. What the club needs though is a trophy. A Europa league win next season would be huge for us at this point and might give us the impetus to push on domestically again as we currently look a million miles off a league challenge
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is why I thought more Spurs fans would give Ange stick for the way the season has panned out. Surely most of us want to win something now more than just qualify for CL. Without Europe it seemed like as good a chance as ever to do something in a domestic cup but instead we flopped in both, harder than we have before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s the usual revisionism/head in the sand on our board. Devon reckons because we lost 3-0 away to Fulham in the league that somehow justified rotating ourselves out of the league cup to them - failing to note they also rotated their side.

It’s very clear what happens at Spurs, there are incentive bonuses (large ones) for CL qualification and very small ones for winning a cup. We’ve seen it with multiple managers, they sacrifice, Europa, League cup and FA cup at the drop of a hat to preserve legs for a league game at home to Bournemouth. Boils my pizz.

Ange went down a lot in my estimations after his tantrum following the City game and do the fans have a winning mentality - yet he picked a weakened side in one of only 2 cups we were in - so what does that say about his mentality, just another man chasing the CL bonus.

If we diiiick ourselves out of the Europa next season I’m done. It should be virtually impossible for Spurs and now United not to get through that group stage, if he finds a way then he can faaack off

Arsenal are as predictable as we are, we will shoot ourselves in the foot somewhere along the way in all the cup comps - it will mostly be self sabotage.

Arsenal will lose to the first elite side they face in the CL KO’s. Europe is just not in their DNA. They would be better off faaaacking that off and instead going for it flat out in the League where they have a lot more pedigree

To win a trophy this is what football is all about. FA cup is a big trophy.

People forget that the FA cup is only a competition where United done well this season. To get a CL place is a marathon over one season and it enable the club to move forward financialwise. That`s what Arsenal has done.

So guess I would still prefer Arsenal`s season.

This is what matters.

There's no trophy for 'best' finances or best participators!
Though I would definitely give a trophy to Arsenal for being the best & nicest participants there is

If you go out of the domestic cups early it's more beneficial in the chase for a top 4 finish.

Finishing 2nd is best as there's no pressure on you to retain anything the following season

Why do I have to? This is about trophies Vs league position. Major trophies are remembered forever, finishing top 4 is not.

So staying on point, winning a major trophy > how much revenue a club makes

This House guy is still going. Winning trophies should make you happy, not brag about it on an obscure internet forum.

As for the OP, context is key. I've seen my team win 4 fa cups in the last ten years, we are also record holders. I'll personally take progress in the league.

I'm pretty sure utd fans would have taken that at the start of the season too, but winning the FA Cup is fantastic, don't blame them for getting giddy.

Definitely now it needs to be about winning something as the main priority. We are a bit of a laughing stock and that won't change until we win a trophy.

Honestly we must be the most underachieving team in Europe over the last 20 years, all things considered.

When we won the FA Cup when we were šhit we were laughed at because rivals said challenging is more important and its true their right is much rather challenge for the Title every season than be šhit and win the odd Cup here and there because for a big club like Arsenal we should be winning the Leage and CL don't get me wrong the FA Cup is great but even hit teams like Wigan and Portsmouth can win it and look where they are now so it's got to be challenging for the Title for me!

Next season points reset to 0. Look at 21/22 Premier-league and 22/23 gap between Man Utd and Liverpool. 34 points behind to 7 points clear.

posted on 26/5/24

Obviously not, the PL & the CL are what I am interested in, it has been that way for a long time now.

Arsenal have won the FA Cup 14 times & like every big team we rotate when we play in a “domestic” - nobody rotates in squad players for the CL. It’s a nice-to-have if it works out & gives the squad game time. The League Cup is an even smaller event !

Really these domestics are most important to give small clubs something they could try & win - that is their main value now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

True, but that’s what the target is, Arsenal have won the FA Cup multiple times in that period - as I said they are “nice-to-haves” but that’s all.
