OP, Rooney has an opinion just like the rest of us.

Personally, I think the English mentality leads people to Gerrard more than Scholes.

I also think their roles in their respective teams showed that Scholes was the better footballer… even if Gerrard had a more varied set of attributes.

He said Scholes was the best he’s played with but that Ronaldo is the most talented.

Sacchi retired when Gerrard was a teenager I think and did his best work before he was even born. Either way he was a failure outside of one stint in Milan, and even that’s debatable.

Fergie, Jose and Zidane all wanted him though, whilst Scholes and Rooney say he’s better.

Gerrard was a fantastic player, of course they wanted him.

Doesn't mean they wanted Scholes any less or that Gerrard would have displaced Scholes - you're clutching at straws.

Sacchi's comments articulately describe my thoughts on Gerrard and why he was moved around and ended up playing off the front man.

We're dealing in fine margins here - they were all amazing players - but that quote I think is pertinent to the point that people are trying to make when they tell you why they believe Scholes was better.

He ended up playing DM and got in team of the season (again) for that position too.

Can we only have people posting who know what they’re on about please OP?

I never claimed he didn't end up back at DM - so maybe you should concentrate on your own reading skills.

Obviously in the context of when he was originally moved from the central position, spent some time on the right and then settled into the 10.

People need to just respect that this is a matter of opinion.

Rooney says Gerrard, Pep says Scholes.

We can all trade names of people who have said either... it doesn't really mean much.

What is pathetic is when people just can't handle an alternative opinion, so they have to try and mock it.

I suppose Pep didn't used to rate Scholes but as each year goes by, he rates him more and more - just like the rest of us.
