He arrived at Spurs to some sort of fanfare, but having never seen or heard of the bloke I waited to see what the fanfare was all about, still farking waiting, really don't get all this 'but he has talent' carp neither, a few flicks, step overs and a lot of puffing is all I have seen
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure how you couldn't see he was talented.

Loads of technical ability just didn't have the attitude.

He was supposed to be the one, to bring trophies back to the club.

It's amazing how most of our big money signings have been so disappointing. If you take the top 20 most expensive players who have had more than a season here, there are only 5 who I would rate as a 7 out of 10 or more. Good signs for some of the newer additions but still.

20) Bent - 5/10
19) Aurier - 5/10
18) Emerson - 6/10
17) Gil - 4/10
16) Sessegnon - 4/10
15) Moura - 7/10
14) Kulusevski - 7/10
13) Bissouma - 6.5/10
12) Son - 9/10
11) Lamela - 6/10
10) Reguilon - 5/10
9) Soldado - 4/10
8) Bergwijn - 6/10
7) GLC - 6/10
6) Sissoko - 6/10
5) Porro - 7/10
4) Sanchez - 6/10
3) Romero - 7/10
2) Richarlison - 6/10
1) Ndombele - 3/10

Odd one, had bags of talent. Bit pogba-esque in that respect, though pogba sometime turned up for us. On paper should have been a great signing, for spurs, would be intriguing as to why it didn’t work
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think it's complex really - he's a poor professional. You can't even point to injuries or anything. His career has regularly been marked with managers calling out his poor fitness, conditioning, and general attitude.

Whoever was responsible for our signings at the time did a crappy job of scouting and due diligence. Worth noting that Sessegnon and Lo Celso signed at the same time. Poch was given a lot of say seemingly at the expense of recruitment professionals

I suppose in Poch's defence he didn't have a whole lot of time with those players. Would it have been different for both those players and Poch if he'd been kept around for the season? Who knows. Possibly not.

That's a low bar but yeah maybe valid. Also I don't think we should ignore the fee and wages. That's not on him, granted, but there's no doubting when you add everything up he's our worst signing

posted on 9/6/24

All I can add is our recruitment and especially due diligence on that recruitment does seem to have got a whole better.

I mean, how hard can it be to find out he's not all that keen on looking after himself.

yeah he's the worst signing but he was a better player for us. played more minutes and got more goals and assists despite having less seasons in the squad

He has mental health problems as a youth player which greatly affected his health and fitness, when things go wrong for him he turns to food. Should have been noted when scouting him but we wasted thorough enough, doesn’t have the mental ability to make it.

At Lyon it was all great for him, every week, so nothing got him down but soon as he came to the PL and had a dodgy spell, he became a fat lazy mess.

I think he was a bit homesick from the off. Wasn't that brought up in the documentary when he was speaking to Levy? I don't know the ins and outs of the dressing room but I imagine he might have been closer to Sissoko and Aurier than some of the others and they both left which probably didn't help his mental health.

You're right though, this could have been picked up on with better research. Sometimes just seeing player play isn't enough.

He has mental health problems as a youth player
---

Source? All I can find is that he wasn't committed..'He was nonchalant,' Sullivan Martinet, his youth-team captain, told Ouest France. 'He was so strong that we were expecting more from him, more consistency.

'He didn't try maybe as much. He didn't give the impression of always being 100 per cent.

'With hindsight, what harmed him was his behaviour off the pitch. We were less talented but we wanted it more than him.'

I'm not saying it's not mental health related, but it's not necessarily the same thing. I'm sure there's lots of players that had mental health issues and managed to sprint during games

His role at Napoli was truly bit part and inconsequential in their title win.

Kalvin Phillips had more influence on City' s treble season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t dispute that. But materially, he has won more than we as a club have. Phacts.
