Big mistake not taking Henderson and Philips

For balance, this is an article that Steinberg wrote after the Belgium friendly.

He didnt have the best of games but most of them didnt, hard to give any of them over a 5 tbh. Did he ?

Including the subs ? Trent Did well coming on and was Englands best player again imo. Gordon was prob most involved until then. Idk bow palmer got a 6 he missed a few sitters :/ he should have had an assist though. Foden was lucky to get a 4 he was awful. Walker was all over the place too positionally and his attacking threat none existent. Keeper was poor imo too for the goal.

All the subs except Konsa (5) got a 6.

But yeah 4 maybe a few 5s at most overall and foden walker lucky not to get lower. Nothing wrong with that or going in on mainoo he’d prob have given himself a 4 or 5 tbh.

Yep. But now people are trying to end a man’s career over it. It’s insane!

I didn’t watch the game, so can’t comment on individual player ratings, but given so many publications used an image of Saka, a late substitute, under negative headlines, there does seem to be something weird going on.

The Saka example is worrying and completely wrong. The Mainoo one is not remotely the same.

Being a user of an anonymous social media platform brings out anyone's sociopathic tendencies. A portion of right-wing people, left-wing people, centrist liberals and tribal sports fans is prone to hysterical and dishonest invective. This appears to still be news to the OP.

It doesn’t surprise me to be honest. But it’s still ridiculous. It’s the crowd who thinks all journalists, pundits and referees have a conspiracy against the club. Morons the lot of them.

I like Mainoo but he was poor.

Don't know why Southgate didn't play TAA in CM against what we knew would be a very defensive team. Rice and TAA should be our CM pair but have hardly played together.

He also included Wharton in the squad but gave given him 30 mins game time and none on Friday

I find Southgates approach to friendlies very confusing and lacking logic.

Games like that showed to me that a Grealish or Maddison is needed to help unlock a defence. Gordon's pace counted for very little vs a parked bus and bus end product was poor.

Oh I see! It’s still early here, and I misread the OP.

Yeah, that is crap. It’s just the guy’s opinion after all.

He was “exposed” because of his match rating. No one was looking to “expose” him prior to this. So it’s revenge in its simplest form. And the tweets that people are using against him are up to 17 years old at a time when he was most likely a teenager. It’s a joke.

Those tweets were REALLY bad though. Even 17 years ago, people knew not to say that stuff

I'm sorry but this so called journalist could well have ruined England's euro chances and seriously dented the progression of such a promising generation. What young players need is confidence. They will have read his scathing reviews and their confidence will be shot. What we want to be seeing from the media is the hyping up of young English players, to really get their confidence up. I just don't know why we never see this.

Yes, it is excessive.to go deep.diving for dirt, but once that dirt is exposed, nobody cares. If you were racist once, you should lose your career.

I’ve not seen the Tweets, but if we’re at the point where people are accountable for something written in their younger years, when in all likelihood they’re a completely different person now, then it’s pathetic. He’s not a politician, he’s a sports journalist.

It’s the idiots dredging it all up and using it because they didn’t like a balanced view on a football player that are the problem.

I'm all for this retrospective punishment for tweets from when people were young. We need to be implementing it in other aspects of society as well. Driving tests for example.

"You did well on your test today, but I have just found a video online posted by your mum 14 years ago on Facebook of you crashing your trike. I'm not sure that's the kind of driving we want to be seeing on our roads, so unfortunately you have failed your test today."

Why does criticising a black players performance make you racist?

Mainoo didn’t have a good game, not one player did.

Worlds fecked.

Just found a few of his historical tweets, and tbf they’re pretty bad. But the point still stands that it shouldn’t be used now to get him sacked. Funny enough it’s the kind of thing that some people post on here week in week out and think it’s perfectly acceptable.
