Luke Shaw vs Ten Hag

Agree that this needs serious attention, though it seems it already is being addressed (recruitment of an Arsenal physio - joining another former member of the Arsenal medical team who defected a few months ago - at the end of the season). I don't think the hiring/firing of medical staff was even in Ten Hag's remit pre-INEOS, but particularly now you'd imagine that's in the hands of his superiors.

Excuses for being overweight and not living the athlete lifestyle

When O'Driscoll was at Arsenal we constantly had one of the worst injury records.
O'Driscoll goes to United and suddenly we have a good record and United have injury crisis' all season...

Weren’t the medical staff all at the club before EtH joined though (apart from the guy we recently got from Arsenal)? It’s clearly an issue but not necessarily EtHs fault. We had a similar issue with Martial under Ole, is it the managers responsibility to know if the player is fit enough to play or the medical team to inform him?

Didn’t EtH recently say that Shaw can only play half a season with his fitness issues which while sad just isn’t really what the club need and for too long this club have been buying players without seemingly caring about their fitness and injury problems.

The main issue like with most things at the club is the structure and not having the right things in place to be successful moving forward.

Assuming this is tongue-in-cheek, but Arsenal had far fewer injuries than United in 2022/3 as well. Meanwhile, I assume the whole area of minimising sports injuries isn't a simple case of the new doctor coming in, sprinkling their magic recipe and everything gets better immediately. It presumably relates to areas such as conditioning, diet, training practices, managing minutes played, and even recruitment strategy, where the pay-offs for getting things right are redeemed in the longer term.

ETH seems not to rush players back.
Very often he has said someone has trained all week, but he doesn't play them at the weekend.

and now Shaw has come out

Good for him, we all had suspicions

There's no way those 60+ injuries were all bad luck. We don't know who it is to blame and it could be multiple people but something is seriously wrong with how we prepare and recover. We didn't even play in Europe after Christmas either but things didn't improve injury wise.

UTD players playing too many games is a huge factor in last seasons injury crisis imo

Ten hags 1st season included a winter World Cup in a season where utd went deep into all cup competitions and finished in the top 4. All this followed by a money grabbing pre season tour of the USA as well as friendlies in Scotland, Ireland England and Denmark (I thnk).

City won the treble and didn't get anywhere near as many as we did this past season so I don't think we can use that excuse.

Like just other things, the injuries we suffered will.be down to a number of different factors.

Bad luck, poor rehab, rushing back, poor diagnosis.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I bet there’s bee numerous times where this has happened with Shaw and he has got injured again and also not been injured. His body is just unreliable, and like most players he’s never going to be 100% clear of injuries and will always play through them. Bit of a diiiiick move by him to blame the medical staff for him thinking he was ready to play.

But it wasn't a huge factor for the team that played just 1 less game than we did the season before the one that's just finished. That's the point.

We've not rotated enough when we had the opportunity to and I suspect that we aren't as good as City are in the physio and sports science department either.

Some of the injuries have been bad luck but some just seem careless to me.
