Personally, I think we should buy 2 CB's and move Martinez to CDM to replace Casemiro.
Surely 2 left footed CBs can play next to each other? Does every club play 1 left and 1 right at CB? Also maybe we’re interested as it allows us to play Martinez at LB and CM where we need options.
Yes we need 2 ideally and if we get Branthwaite it’ll be a big chuck of our small budget. Hopefully we get some money from Casemiro and Greenwood (as well as some others).
Branthwaite can play on the right. Did so for PSV, and is comfortable on his right foot.
Need to let go of one of Maguire/Lindelof and sign another right sided CB on top of him - would give us a good , versatile set of options.
Hermoso is available on a free after his Atletico Madrid contract expired. Todibo should be available for about £25m.
I think we’ll sign two CBs but Martinez will stay LCB.
I've read somewhere that he is right footed!
Perhaps we'll be moving more towards a City type of backline where Martinez plays LB at times as well when Shaw isn't available.
It's only personal terms though. We've been here before with De Jong when we agreed terms with Barca. All parties need to be happy for the move to go ahead. I suppose the ball is in Everton's court now. What will they accept and will we go that high? Would they want to keep a player who wishes to leave? Perhaps we'd throw in a player as a sweetener even if on loan?
Can’t see us getting rid of slabhead with his wages. More likely Lindelof. We also have the French lad we used a bit at the end of the season, but not really sure he’s good enough? We’ll probably give Evans another year contract. That’s 5 CBs, not the best set but might be the best we can do for now.
Depends on the price and if he performs. Can’t say I’ve been mega impressed with him, but has potential
Need to keep Maguire and let the worse than useless Lindelof go
Bit different to de Jong as he never at any point had any desire to leave. These rumours suggest Branthwaite is up for the move and it’s just the fee that needs agreeing, with a club who are desperate to sell within the next 17 days.

Eth will be back in for him. Probably texting him right now, for the 20000 time.
I’ll be amazed if this happens.
Now would seem to be the time from a United perspective, but I can’t see us going anywhere remotely close to Everton’s valuation of the player.
If there’s fire behind the smoke, it’ll surely just be a case of how desperate Everton are.

Why? Everton need to sell before July. They aren’t in a position to demand Maguire money.

But who else is after him? If it’s just us and Everton are desperate and we are supposedly also looking at other options then maybe they will have to lower their valuation.

Are we allowed to sign Todibo?
I did read a few days ago when the UEFA ownership thing with United and Nice was being heard that clubs under the same structure like that can't transfer players between each other if they are competing in the same competition? And that any such transfers are banned anyway for the first 3 years of the relationship?
Didn’t City ‘buy’ a player from Girona recently?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A few reasons.
Everton have other players they can sell, and might feel (sensibly) like shifting two players they value at £30m for £40m is better business than shifting one player they value at £80m for £40m.
I also think some people are hugely overestimating how much we’ll spend this summer. I’m not sure the ability is there (unless there’s a strong belief we can generate serious income from a few outgoings), and I’m not sure the will will be there either given that we don’t have two of the key transfer decisionmakers in yet (three if you include Berrada) and another only a month at the club.
Now it might be that Branthwaite has been made the number one priority this summer, that there’s agreement in the hierarchy that we can’t wait for the transfer team to assemble to pull the trigger on this one, and that a large slice of the budget has been earmarked for him. All possible.
And if United can get the fee down to £40m (or £50m at a great push), it’s probably doable. But I’d just be surprised if Everton bent that far considering their valuation of their asset. (But then I don’t know just quite how desperate they are and where they might be with other outgoings.)
A lot of variables at play I guess.

I have no idea who else might be in for him.
But if United can’t get anywhere near their asking price, and they can get the same money (or more) for Onana, say, by the end of the month, they might opt to at least hang on to Branthwaite until after the deadline to strengthen their negotiating position.
Why would Everton be able to sell 2 cheaper players for more than their value though? I think whoever they sale this month (which they have to by all accounts) they will have to sell them for less than whatever they think they’re worth because they’re in no position to haggle.
Like you say, it all depends who else they can sell this month. Onana seems like the other obvious player to sell.
I think you’re underestimating how much we will spend, and overestimating how much value Everton players are. They may well want to do what you say, but if you’ve actually watched Everton play football you will struggle to find more than two players that clubs will be willing to pay more than £30m for, especially with their financial situation. And then there’s the fact that Branthwaite was signed for fack all that it helps their financial situation on the books far more than selling the few valuable assets they actually have at the club.

Isn't it more beneficial for them, in PSR terms, to sell Branthwaite as an academy player though? (Genuine question - I don't have a clue about these things)
He isn’t homegrown I don’t think as he hasn’t been at the club for 3 years.
They signed him for about £1m four years ago.

I meant two players at £20m each (Pickford and Calvert-Lewin? ).
Yeah, Onana is the other really obvious one, and it seems there might be two or three clubs interested in him.
Sorry I meant they have to be at a club for 3 years before turning 21. He turned 21 last summer so maybe he has been there for 3 years?
There’s not a chance Everton sell Pickford on the cheap. He’s by far their most important player. If they get £20m for DCL they’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.
