Im trying to get my head around which us more humane. Sinking the small boats where ever they appear in British waters or picking up the people in the small boats in British waters and sailing them out to French water.... and then chucking them overboard. Those on the right on here, please let us know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The right or the far right? They are not the same thing, just as the left isn't the same thing as the far left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of couse they are not. But the mainstream democratic right wing of UK politics has moved dangerously close to the dogma of what once not too long ago unnaceptable by the mainstream. As for this question of the small boats and post Brexit immigration, I have heard many of people I know and dont know, who lean to the right politicaly, express that view that we should just sink the boats in the Channel that come, or even chuck the migrants into the sea. Lets hope that most are just angered and not being too serious

Unfortunately I've long suspected that this or similar will become the norm within our lifetimes. It's likely there'll be 100 of millions of people on the move eventually, looking for safety and they'll end up being met with violence, including by the UK.

What if these immigrants have guns? We should be allowed guns to defend ourselves against them. You don't see many African going across to America on small boats do you? That's cos they know they'd get shot. We have gone soft so migrants are targeting us. Make guns legal for everyone to defend themselves, problem solved.

Yep. Due to climate change many regions of sub Saharan Africa will be unliveable and hundreds of millions of people will be on the move to more habitable places on the planet. But much of Europe and the UK may well be under far right control in the decades to come and large swathes of the populace will be brainwashed into thinking the people coming to Europe are ‘cockroaches’ and part of an invading army. We’re already seeing things like ‘military aged men’ being used to make them out to be a threat to white civilisation.

Where does it end? Fences and walls put up in Europe like we see in Hungary? Boats being shot in the Med by naval ships? Concentration camps in places like Greece and Italy?

Not so far fetched when you see how in history certain populations have been dehumanised and treated by those who fear them.

What has been reported from Greece is quite simply disgusting and inhumane.

Illegal immigration, whilst certainly an issue worth discussing and handling, is nothing compared to our legal immigration numbers. The illegal numbers are at a level where our total net numbers used to be for decades which on the one hand says that it’s really high but when compared to recent legal numbers of 1,200,000 it’s not what I would be focusing on.

Gammons up here have long wait times to get served at bars. Can't find a care home to look after their elderly mum due to lack of care workers. Can't find an available plumber to fix their toilet. Can't find a cleaner to clean their buy to let house. Cant find any hospitality staff to work at their establishment that they own.

Their main focus?

Too many immigrants coming here

Many people have learned from the moral shocks of the twentieth century and therefore resist the call of propaganda that tries to dehumanise people who come from certain places or whose appearance mark them out as alien. What happened in the seas around Greece isn't inevitably "what humans do" - we have every opportunity to do the opposite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Many haven't, unfortunately. Like that utter cᴜnt in the video on that article answering the question about kids being illegally deported saying immigrants abandon them because they don't love their children like we do.

Sickening bɑstɑrd.

Yeah that's pretty much it. Seems far more likely to happen than not happen with the way humanity is heading.

To avoid that fate, we urgently need to see liberal governments enacting laws that protect our information systems from capture by malicious entities: robust, independent fact-checking organisations, mandatory transparency in funding of think-tanks, budget going into understanding how to prevent democracy being hijacked by deep fakes, etc.

no its not you, its placing your life potentially in the hands of people that dont want you
its obviously not a good thing

You've put the onus of blame on people who were tossed into the sea to drown for the risk they took, rather than on the people who murdered them (in the process breaking Greek and international law, and of course attempting to do it in secret because such policies would not be openly sanctioned by the democratically elected government of Greece).

Ahh your one of those people who always assumes the worst possible connotation for something, do you have pink hair?

posted on 17/6/24

You're clearly someone who can only think in clichés (and appear to have taken the title of the OP rather literally, having missed the tongue-in-cheek reference to Harry Maguire's alleged drunken abuse of the arresting officers during his holiday mishap). But in your first comment above, you explicitly blamed the victims for being murdered, and had nothing to say about the agents of a democratic government systematically killing vulnerable people. For things like that to happen it doesn't just need a small number of psychopaths who are willing to do the deed; it also requires larger numbers of people who, like you, just shrug their shoulders when they hear about it. It happens when it stops being an unthinkable outrage.

If there is an accident then you could make that statement even if it is extremely callous. But this scenario is entirely different.

I recall we may have had *minor* political differences in the past, Sat Nav, but that's very well said. It's useful to recognise that there are basically humane, democratic values that a large majority of people can agree on, whether they are more conservative or more progressive on the continuum. And not executing people for trying to enter your country is one of them. I personally don't think that's a marginal view espoused by people with pink hair, whereas forum member U20650's reaction does seem consistent with a specific hair cut.

People say there is no solution but I know a billionaire who asked the Greek government if he could buy an island and put them all on there. He would have invested into infrastructure to create a new island with tourism and other industries. Greece wouldn't allow it but I can't see any negatives.
