Palmer will face the same problems all the other technical players are facing in the rigid set up. Bowen is more likely to work with pace and running being his game.

Two wide men who hold their width. Creates space for Pedri and Morata to dovetail.
Palmer, Foden are both penetrative attackers around the striker who rely on others to hold possession. And as such, they need a 4-1-4-1 formation. Neither can recycle the ball like Pedri does. So if you put them in a no.10 they will not hold the ball while his teammates are able to step up to hold the ball in the opponent's half.
As a manager, Southgate absolutely sucks!!
