A culture shift was needed. You've got to get rid of players, no matter how talented they are, if they aren't going to be part of the solution. We've seen that at Arsenal with Aubameyang. Or if they don't fit the mould going forward, again you see this with Arsenal and Ozil.
We should have put things into place and Ralf shouldn't done what he excels in and what he was brought into do rather than thrust into that mess.
What most forget is that ETH didn't want Ralf as that support structure.
Ralf was meant to be the DOF.
What a great decision by ETH. Not
That austria team is decent
The first half of Ralf Ragnick man utd first game, i forget against who was thrilling to watch, players taking positions, pressing all over the pitch, then it stopped and while we still had some good results under him, the general attitude of the players was to stop respecting him.
He famously dropped Rashford for Elanga. The players and the silly pundits are the problem, everything man utd they magnify it and refuse to allow processes that are long over due take place.
Glad to see some restoration of Ralf as a tactian and builder of talents.
He also famously left us names of players to buy, all of whom were ignored.
He probably would have made a better DOF than any of the names thrown out there since

Do we have anything solid on this or was this just The Sun?
Who knows if Rangnik would have been effective as an adviser within United's executive structure, with all of its dysfunction, lack of streamlined decision making, the problematic role of Woodward, and the Glazers needing to sign off on transfers? Maybe he'd have been just another voice adding to the general chaos.
The fact that he couldn't fix United as coach never meant that he wasn't a smart footballing mind, and the fact that Austria are looking impressive doesn't mean he's the guy we needed all along.
In fairness I don't remember reading too many people blaming Ralf for what happened in those 6 months. Yeah the results weren't great but he basically caught a hand grenade for that temporary job. It wasn't his fault the mess we were in.
I'd have been really happy for him to take over as DOF or whatever the exact role was he was originally being lined up to do. We could have really exploited the German market which has always eluded us really.
He told home truths and the Glazers didn't like it which is kind of hilarious as Jim is basically doing the same now and they say nothing. 😂
SE85
I don't think he was ever lined up as DoF - in my memory they were originally floating the idea of keeping him on in some sort of consultancy arrangement.
As for home truths, I suppose if they are accompanied by a billion pounds, they may be more palatable to swallow.

Added to the fact that Ralf took the Austria job.
Ralf was 1 million percent better than what he showed at United. Coming in after the mess Ole left behind would have broken most in that initial post few months.
Let us not re invent history here just because Austria have just beat Poland. Ralf was awful as Interim manager and was way out of his depth.
Managing the prima donnas at United is a far greater task than managing a national team.
What Ralf did do, as SE 85 said, was alert the media to the backroom chaos that was under Ed.

Funny you should say that Robbsie, as Ole, for all his faults as a manager, came in and had massive success early doors fixing the mess Jose left behind.
So much, in fact, that you said sign him up.

Sorry pal but we all know that put United against that exact Poland team and there’s no way they come out looking as good as Austria did yesterday.
They’d either scrap a draw get easily rolled over.

...................
Pretty sure that in our last game we looked pretty good against the best team, by far, in the country.
Silly comparison. National sides would struggle massively against far more coherent club sides who train with one another every day.
Ralf struggled because of all the reason other managers failed at United but also because everyone knew he was only there for a few months and had no real power or authority so the players never cared.

That's what I was going for.
Ralf was approached to be interim manager, but he wanted a 2 yearncontracr to reflect the contract he would be giving up, to go to United, so we agreed, and said he would be a consultant for thr 2nd year.
Ralf was then offered the Austria job and left. Nothing to do with Erik.
