The question is … who’s a striker that can come in as a bench option for £35 million?
Is Ten Hag prioritising Zirkzee because he’s Dutch?
Yes.
Though I suspect the Dutchman would be a better fit for how he wants to play, presumably like Holland 74.

Gimenez - might be slightly more but not far off. Toney at about £40m.
Give Newcastle £80m for Isak and sell Sancho at a considerable loss - loads you could do

To why is running his contract down - lots of reports were (Spurs) sniffing around - so he can’t be that expensive or Levy would have a nose bleed
I can't believe how many people are flirting with the 'Zirkzee is Dutch so he's been hand-picked by ETH and INEOS didn't mean a word of what they said they said about how they'd run sporting operations' logic. It's bordering on SE85's old South America superstition.
Personally, I don't see much merit in buying a 27 year-old striker with a lot of recent injury issues who has never been a high volume goal scorer and doesn't excel at bringing others into the game. PL experience is an asset if the player has proven himself in the PL. In DCL's case, his PL experience tells us more or less what we can expect, which I think is a lower ceiling and a less versatile footballer than what we need.

It's fine to be sceptical about INEOS, but they have no reason to lie about how they want to run the club. Moreover, both their appointment of heavyweight sporting execs / recruitment people + the example of Nice are concrete evidence that they believe in an industry-standard model in which the head coach doesn't have extensive authority in choosing players.
Added to that, why if he wants to keep his job, would ETH want to only recruit Dutch players and people he has personally coached in the past? Whether or not he's the right coach for our club, he's obviously not a total fuŃking moron.
Also, while EtH has clearly had a big say on transfers, I don’t Zirkzee is necessarily another just because of his nationality. Seems to fit the INEOS profile and EtH is probably happy to move forward with a move.
I think EtH has probably had to go for targets he knows personally because the recruitment at the club was ad that it was often left to him having to choose players. Hopefully that won’t be an issue now.

I’m operating under the logic that players get injured once they join us but magically ones that who were injury prone before joining us stay injury free.
I'd rather have Weghorst back. The guy makes Martial looks fairly reliable fitness wise.
Massively underwhelmed by all the forwards we are being linked to personally. I'd rather give Wheatley his chance than waste any more money on average to poor players. Wheatley looks a proper player too.
