I don't think it's "woke", but it's a little ridiculous. Who cares if a cab driver wants and England flag?

Where is this on the outrage calendar ?

Call BS on this one.

It's basically an attempt at racist rhetoric. Ie brown man from Muslim background bans St George's cross.

Let me explain. I worked for local authorities for 30 years. The whole taxis, buses, bin lorries etc displaying St George's crosses/flags etc was something that came up regularly since about 1998.

No authority would "allow" vehicles under their remit to display such things. Simple because of Hand S law.

If a flag was to fly off a bin lorry and hit a person or property, for example, it's the council that gets sued.

If it flew off and caused an accident the council gets sued. When they inevitably litter the street the council gets grief.

One council I worked at had a white guy as leader, never a peep when it wasnt allowed. Then a brown guy gets to be leader and all of a sudden Farage and his ilk make a fuss that "forriner won't allow us to be proud" etc

I'd be very surprised if the instruction came straight from Khan? no opinion either way on it but he wont be involved in everyone of the thousands of decisions made every day in London by all the depts?

And also it is the Daily Mail so there wouldn't be any slant to one of their articles.......Right?

Makes sense.

Probably one of those things where Khan is just saying what he has to say, but ultimately nobody really gives a toss.

Daily Fail are still bitter that he is London's mayor for the 3rd term.

TFL have had this rule before Khan.

Not only that but so do most other councils eg Birmingham, Shropshire etc

The issue of "distraction" isn't just in the visibility. Drivers had those mini clip on flags that attach at the top of the window. Which is fine whilst the window is closed. But open the window and the flag goes flying. This is a distraction if your behind and it hits your windscreen. Or a cyclist o a pedestrian.

Look I was officer manager for a cab firm for 2 years. With a fleet of 700 cars. I used to hear this from drivers all the time. What they never mentioned is that rules have existed for a to long time where any other insignia apart from what a council deems fit, has to be applied for. As in a written request. If it's reasonable it is allowed. What you can't do is just add it.

Each local council has many other council plates taxis in its area. So Birmingham could and will have Wolverhampton plated taxis running in its borough. Wolverhampton rules will be different from Birmingham ones. As long as an operator has an operating license from a council they can operate anywhere.

I'm stoke, you will have Ashfield council, Wolverhampton council, Newcastle council and Stoke council plates cars operating. Each council has different criteria for its cars and even the size of the letters on stickers etc.

Taco drivers as a rule make a fuss but if a flag went flying off a car I guarantee he/she won't stop to pick it up

WE NEED OUR COUNTRY BACK!

The only quotes I see on the article are by people they've obviously randomly stopped in the street and hit with this apparent possibility.

Would probably be a bit late to bring it in, since it would need to be agreed and implemented and the competition ends in a couple of weeks.

Seems like more 'woke' stuff from the Mail to whip their conspiracy theorist followers into a frenzy again.

I'm shocked - shocked! - that the publication that annually rages about a fake war on Christmas appears to have confected a story based on an easily explained misunderstanding that paints a Labour politician as a raging wokerati extremist. Shocked!

I have friends who will send me this today no doubt, outraged by it.

Although it doesn't top the other stuff I get sent. Last week I got send a photo showing bad weather, rain etc, worst in June every recorded etc. He then said "global warming indeed".

I went into the office and asked him if he knows how rain works. He refused to answer. So I loaded up BBC Bitesize and told him this is what we learn in primary school and read it to him. His retort? You guessed it, ah "brainwashed by the BBC I see".

Whaddaya mean I can't attach my Georgian flags to my English taxi?

posted on 25/6/24

There is a ban on all flags being flown from vehicles. The ban has been in place since before Khan became London Mayor.

You have to hand it to the right wing press though. They sure know how to rile up the idiots with complete non-stories.
