NYC is the greatest city on earth, an amazing place. Used to go into the city monthly to party it up and spent plenty of time there outside of drinking. A heaving mass of humanity representing every single nation on earth.

Having been to every proper ciry in the US, New York wins out easily. It is like 20 smaller cities inside a city, don't like one area, explore the next.

Sad reality is that most cities in the US have been ignored as strip malls spring up outside the ring road and nobody goes central.

A few exceptions are New Orleans which sadly is just a dangerous hang out down town. San Antonio which is very nice, just small of course and that is the thing which makes NYC great, you could spend the next decade there and not scratch the surface, it is immense.

Avoid - Philly, Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta, Des Moines, Myrtle Beach
Good - Charleston, Chattanooga, Austin, Asheville, Wilmington, Minneapolis

All opinion tbf and haven't mentioned the places that I've not been for 20 years or the places that are in between good and bad. Just way too many places to go see as well!

As I said, just opinion. Plenty for the music fan in Nashville of course though other cities do it better by spreading it out and having a mix of music venues, bars, restaurants and pedestrianise more of it rather than cram it they way they have but I'm at the age where the stag & hen party scene is just tedious scheite and that concentration just exacerbates an already awful place. And it was 40C so even the pool was a waste of time.

Atlanta is an absolutely awful place. You couldn't pay me enough to go near that city again.

We could have moved there once, went down, took a look, really disliked it, spoke to a few folks we knew down there after to see what we were missing and they all said 'don't do it'.

Who knows, can't say I am disappointed at not going, ended up in Lawrence KS which has been by far the best place I have lived over here. But then, student towns are always the best.

Savannah is nice

Stamford

The college towns around the US are much better than just about all the cities to be honest. NYC is one of the few exceptions. It has several neighbourhoods based around the colleges anyway which is another leg up it has on most other cities.

Wife's cousin has just sold her waterfront place in Stamford. Empty nesters. Not sure where or what they are moving to but they have places all over the world from careers in banking. Football link - they rented their upper east apartment to David Villa when he played at NYC.

NYC felt like being walled in by buildings you're not allowed inside - brooklyn is cool tho
I rlly liked LA - it's huge and has many scenic areas.. didn't feel unsafe, LAPD and especially the sheriffs dept don't mess around
Atlanta sux - car booters are a menace, southern charm fled long ago
If you like bleak, go to any city in Pennsylvania
don't go to myrtle beach for a beach, go south to garden city, murrells inlet, pawleys island, etc, or north myrtle, cherry grove, or NC beaches
charleston and savannah are nice too
I wanna go to vegas again
