There was a player in the championship/league one that never missed one, but he had a very unusual technique, he used to run head on to the ball which gave the keeper no chance of reading his posture. Can't remember his name, not a big name player but was around the second division for years.

We have no idea how Le Tissier would have done in the tournaments because he’s never had to test himself in big moment. It’s why he’s a cult player, incredible for Saints but I suspect he would have not got on at a bigger club or in a big tournament because more would hand been demanded from him which he isn’t going to do. Having never moved adds to his legacy because many fans will always claim he would have done something on a bigger stage when he most likely wouldn’t have.

Cantona was such a pro and made everyone at the club work harder. Le Tissier was getting pisssssed at the bars on Bournemouth beach every Friday night. He was bigger than any manager saints had and they all knew to let him do what he wants. There’s a reason he never played much for England.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cantona liked a drink too. Although perhaps not as much as Le Tiss. But you'd expect that SAF would have made Le Tiss knuckle down a bit.
A bit, he was fat, probably had man boobs.
I do miss that era in football where a player like Le Tissier could exist. Wouldn’t have even made it as a pro these days with his work ethic and fitness.

With good reason.
I don't think he was ever really fully fit. But you could get away with it back then to an extent. Especially with the talent that he had.
Was Cantona much of a drinker, too busy shaaagging Leslie Ash and playing Chess with Irwin. I think Ferguson would have hated Le Tissier after a couple months, probably similar to his relationship with Bosnich. Ferguson will love you if you put the effort in, if not you’re out.
Le Tiss was pretty good but only really well known in England. Not really someone that was well known all aflat the world.
If we were in a position where our squad just needed tweaks and we were in the market for a striker (like Arsenal or City), Toney would be high on the list.
Shame we aren't in that position.

Imagine if we'd had Le Tiss in the squad during 96 and 98. Could have made the difference in how far we progressed in those tournaments.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure you would play both Le Tiss and Gazza in same team at 96. At 98, Hoddle would have seen a lot of himself in Le Tiss, but not sure how well he would have managed him. Given he thought Owen wasn't a natural finisher either.

He certainly had a bit of a reputation around Leeds in the short time he was there. He as often out on the piste with Vinnie. And Keane has talked about him being good for a night out - I believe his favourite tipple was Champagne. I also believe that there is a photo of him out there drinking a pint of beer before his trial game for Sheff Wed.
Le Tiss could do amazing things on a footie pitch, but even he would admit he was the ultimate luxury player, he was pretty lazy, but he was good enough to be like that, especially in a smaller team.
Being the big fish in a small pond suited his style completely - he had the skill to play at a top club, but not the mindset, and I think most big club managers probably recognised that, along with Le Tiss being aware of that himself.
I think he would have been a great impact player for England - if you needed a magical moment, what a player to bring on, and in international knockout tournament football, it doesn't matter that he wasn't working his socks out week in week out. But it would have taken the right type of manager, which Hoddle was not.
Such a great player to watch, some of those magical moments were great to see.

On Toney, he would no doubt be a great asset, but I think with what is required in the rest of the squad, the money numbers probably don't add up - any chance we could make that happen and address defence and midfield issues, well it's a no-brainer.
Regardless, i just hope Hojlund can make the progress we all want him to - having to lead the line for both club and country at such a young age, whilst still developing and not being a 'total worldie' is tough atm, but it could teach him loads
