Good pundit but acts like a child when someone disagrees with him.
If you look at stats alone, then I can understand people saying Kane is England's best ever.
However in big moments for us, huge moments actually, he's gone missing.
2018 vs Croatia when he could've squared it to Sterling for 2-0 but opted to shoot
2021 vs Italy when he offered no threat to them at all in the final
2024 vs Spain when again he didn't turn up in the final
He's never won a trophy either ffs. That alone should mean he isn't our greatest ever player.
Gary Neville paid to offer opinions that drive engagement. The OP has validated the business model.
In more than one interview since Sunday he's labelled Harry Kane as England's greatest ever player.
Nowhere near
greatest ever goalscorer and player are not the same thing
Greatest goal scorer, yes, greatest player, he does not come in the top ten.
Get a grip of yourself Gary.

Lol...."when he could have squared for Sterling"? I bet if you microanalyzed the careers of anyone who ever played for England like that, you'd find moments the player could have done something.
I wouldn't say winning a trophy either should be the sole criteria of determining such. Else, all England's greatest ever players are from their '66 team - which seems nonsensical to claim that ALL your best players were from a team from almost 60 years ago.
He's not even ahead of Rooney, Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard for me.
------------------------------------
I think he's referring to the national team's best player and not their careers.
If we are are talking purely England national team then Kane is definitely way ahead of Rooney, Lampard and Gerard. It's not even a debate.
I deliberately left Scholes out of that because he was always played out of position and poorly used by England managers. No question that Scholes talent is above them all.
Bobby Charlton. Much better

Culer is 100% right on this one. I have never forgiven Kane for that moment. It was a tap in for Sterling and would have finished the game off. Proper selfish.

Yeh I would say that Kane is possibly top 3. But no-one is ahead of Bobby for me.
Kane was done disservice this summer, didn't look fully fit and asked to play in a system with no direct runners either side of him but worse filling the spaces he likes to drop into with not 1 but 2 players.
Tbh I think Lineker was a better striker for England than Kane. Scored far more important goals
Kane’s performance in this tournament and the way we set up was proof it was a step too far for Southgate. Delighted he’s gone.
To commemorate Kane being England's greatest ever player, they decided to play with a statue of him on the pitch.

This is true. We would have been much better with Watkins or Toney up top taking into consideration his tactics and team selections.
He's only 30 so there's still time for him to win things and play to a high level for another few years.
Not our greatest ever player perhaps but he would be up there with time still to become the GOAT English player.

Agree, in the case of Rooney and Rice it was the decision to choose England over Ireland, both regretting it ever since.
If we are judging players on performances in International tournaments alone then Harry Kane is miles ahead of Rooney. I can't believe people think Rooney was a succesful player for England. He only ever scored 1 world cup goal! 1! He had 1 good tournament Euro 2004 but after that his performances in tournaments was absolutely abysmal.
Kane has at least scored 8 world cup goals and 7 European championship goals.
Kane will always be the guy that never shows up when it truely matters. 6 Final appearances and he's been the worst player on the pitch in all of them.

Agree. Better discipline too. At least he didn't get himself sent off by stepping on anyone's nads, nor tell the fans to fack off into the camera.
Hes a good co-commentator and I also quite like him when hes just talking about tactics etc. His problem is he thinks hes the main man and almost always has to make some sort of statement that will create headlines like the 1 you mention. His trent not playing is illegal statament was a lot of ballacks as well.
Hes also one of the most fickle pundits around. Regularly does complete 180's on his own opinions without acknowledging his initial opinion was garbage.
Kane is up there but his lack of trophies hold him back. This tournament did damage to his legacy imo as it was a great chance to redeem himself.
Greatest ever English player is probably Charlton, was a record goal scorer for decades and won numerous trophies for club and the only trophy for the country to date.
More recent ones you can say anyone of the golden gen but on international stage they al disappointed big time.
Then you’re perhaps left with Gazza as the other one with the claim.
