Let's be honest..... nobody really believed Sancho and ETH had made up did they? Clearly it's all a rouse to make a sale more realistic. I'm quite positive that Sancho still doesn't like him and likewise that Erik thinks he's a bit of a pansy for the way he overreacted.
If we can get 25-30m plus his wages off the books then it's a no brainer. He's been a disastrous signing. Can't beat an egg.

Sounds to me that a Mainoo-Fofana partnership would be a bit like Mainoo-Rice: one with some complementary skills, but neither of them an out-and-out DM. The positive side of that is when Mainoo is rested (which he should be at his age) we'd have another midfielder in the squad capable of playing the more progressive role, which I don't think we can expect from Ugarte.

I believe Berbaking wasn't claiming expertise on the player, but questioning whether your knowledge is deep enough to make that kind of declaration. Anyway, it took me two clicks to read that Palmeiras have sold star players to Chelsea and West Ham this summer, are good for cash and keen to consolidate their squad, and have explicitly said they're not selling Rios this summer. Probably enough to be sceptical of a bargain deal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Declaration that he's a baller? Only from YT clips and stats on X but never seen him play 90 Mins for club or country!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you could have just replied "no" to Berbaking's question

Are you BKs PA? 🤣

I no longer recruit PA's through JA606 after my previous PA, United We Win, went rogue midway through the job and became Andrew Tate's PA whilst still contractually obliged to me. UWW hasn't posted on here since, which may or may be related, but I'm advised by RR to make no further comment on that.

With normal wages, Sancho is probably a 40m or at a stretch 50m player right now (rep massively tarnished but still young and showed talent in the past).
Due to his obscenely high wages, which it's very unlikely he'll be willing to reduce down to what his current ability could demand I doubt you'll get more than 30m for him.
Think he'll leave on a free after loans and the odd poor show for United or if you do manage to sell it'll be 20-30m in the end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like Pepe?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes like Pepe, Aubameyang, Ozil and several others we had to give away due to awarding high wages to players who ended up becoming liabilities.
It's not really worth an article but I was tempted to write one when the news came out that Sancho might get another chance at United. This was a chance for the club/manager to show they're ruthless with players who don't have the right attitude, bringing back a guy on huge wages who can't be bothered to train doesn't seem a good start to a new era but maybe he'll turn things around. He's still young.

------------------------------------------------------
Taking that approach could be a useful line in the sand to draw. But I don't think many people believed the first choice was to keep him at United, and if we do manage to sell him to PSG for a reasonable fee, no one will criticise the club for playing up the possibility of his reintegration into the squad.
Ultimately, I think with any club these situations are less about how they play their hand, and more about the value of the player. United lucked out that Sancho not only had a good spell, but that Dortmund went on an extended run in the CL. If that hadn't happened, our room for manoeuvre would have much tighter. In a scenario where you have a toxic dressing room presence that no one wants to buy, it's perhaps better to cut losses.

Fofana looks like a decent kind of profile for the squad. If we could get someone like him and Ugarte it could make a big difference to our midfield.
Dazza, as I think was said on a different discussion, we are lacking more than one profile, and lacking quality and depth in all of them. So to an extent maybe we should be buying good players opportunistically when they are available at an affordable price, rather than fixating on priority of which profile we need most.
Is there an option to pay £30m and give them Antony as well?

Fofana is one of those names that's done the rounds generally speaking as being an exciting prospect (albeit at an age now where you'd expect him to make step up to a bigger club).
At the prices quoted, (and I say this having never seen him play) is he likely to be an upgrade in a position of the pitch in which we're not only weak in terms of quality, but actually quite light in terms of numbers?
I'd imagine he would. Given that we're not going to meet the needs of the midfield in any one single player, Fofana & Ugarte coming in and McT & Casemiro going out would look decent business on paper.
Berbaking, I suspect that the positive start to the window has us all dreaming about signing more players than we can actually afford this summer. Two midfielders seems a stretch unless we sell spectacularly (e.g. a good fee for Casemiro). If we're daydreaming, I think Joao Neves is the best available talent this summer.
It’ll be a joyous day when McTominay finally leaves the club.

I agree. The caveat I wonder is if we are able to get Ugarte on an initial loan (it's been reported that we're pursuing that line). If we were able to delay the full cost of Ugarte until next summer and pick up one or two players at lower fees (Fofana, Kadioglu, Rios etc) in the meantime we might be able to kill more birds with fewer stones.
I'm of the view we need two CB's, especially given our major CB signing so far is just 18 years old. That said, we need two CM's too, and I'd argue we're better equipped at CB to only sign one player than we are in midfield to only bring one in. It's only Mainoo (a kid), and Casemiro (signs of terminal decline in levels + the emergence of his first injury hit season) that naturally slot into a double pivot/deeper midfield roles. All the other options are not proper central midfield players and we'd be very light in that area by only signing one player AND retaining Casemiro.
Like you say, it comes down to the finances ultimately but I'd be surprised if a player going for the kind of sums touted for a Fofana or a Rios was beyond reach alongside someone like Ugarte.

I didn't see much of him at Dortmund, heard he was ok but not much beyond that? Which if you're gonna fork out a transfer fee plus high wages probably isn't going to attract many serious buyers.
