Not sure but up to this summer I thought he’d actually left now.

Can see him getting a permanent move somewhere like Ipswich, or a promoted side, similar to how Andreas ended up with Fulham?

Clearly some talent there but like you say, still not really knocking on the first team door.

Anyone in that squad you fancy to really to break through to the first team squad this season?

Maybe Mount or Sancho.

I don't get the impression any of the academy players have been put on a clear pathway to getting serious minutes in the first team next season in the way Mainoo appeared to be last summer. Not sure if ETH intended to single out Collyer in his comments or whether the quotes that went around this week about him getting an opportunity were just answering a question about the player.

Looks to me that there are several senior players in the travelling squad that the club will try to sell this window (Sancho, AWB, Casemiro, Mejbri, maybe McTominay) and a lot of the youngsters are going along for experience.

Of the youngsters, only Collyer has impressed so far.

Of the players we know I think this could be a big season for Amad.

Fulham spending a bit of a whack on Smith Rowe might rule them out of a second higher bid for McTominay now. Not sure if there’s been any other serious interest in him.

Agree on Amad VC, Ten Hag seems to be putting the message out there now that his chance has come and it’s there to take if he steps up.

Are any of our players in Olympics teams? I've missed anything being said about that.

WHU have agreed a deal to sign Mazraoui, so that rules out AWB going there

I don't think so.

Garnacho wasn't released by the club for them, it was either/or with that and Copa America.

We got away with it on Yoro too as Lille were due to participate in the CL qualification rounds so he was omitted from the Olympic squad - thanks Lille.

Only 10 PL players there actually looking it up now:

Argentina: Julian Alvarez (Man City).
France: Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace), Lesley Ugochukwu (Chelsea).
Mali: Boubacar Traore (Wolves).
New Zealand: Alex Paulsen (AFC Bournemouth), Henry Gray (Ipswich).
Paraguay: Julio Enciso (Brighton), Enso Gonzalez (Wolves).
United States: Gabriel Slonina, Caleb Wiley (both Chelsea).

15m euros with 4m add ons, not a bad price for someone that can cover both sides of defence.

Would've been great going forwards, not sure how well he'll cope defending in the PL but he's fantastic on the ball.

AWB rejected West Ham then.

Not sure about Dumfries, thought he was more of a RWB than a proper RB.

Just me who actually likes Hannibal? One of our few players capable of carrying the ball in midfield, tenacious, aggressive (too much so mind), dynamic, progressive with the ball.

If he could control his temperament I think he can have a good career.

I like him too. Just feel that his progress has stalled. Last season was a waste.

I don’t really watch the academy. Who are they touting as the next to break through?

Feels like we’ve pushed our luck with quality academy output recently with Greenwood, Garnacho and Mainoo. Obviously Greenwood ended up being a disappointment for non-footballing reasons, but that’s three huge talents produced by the academy over a short period of time.

Collyer, Gore, Amass and Wheatley I expect will all get minutes this season if they aren’t loaned out.

Aren’t Amass and Collyer the 2 most likely prospects to break through?

I’ve no idea why anyone watches preseason matches? Hopefully no injuries, all the travelling doesn’t effect the players and the ones back home get some game time to be as ready for the season as possible.

posted on 25/7/24

I’d prefer it if our preseason consisted of Home friendlies against County, Rochdale, Altrincham etc., with gate receipts to the opponents.

Boost the local clubs rather than worrying about the global brand. What’s so good about putting our reserve squad on a flight to the USA, so that we can look appalling on foreign shores?

posted on 25/7/24

Wonder if we'll organize any more friendlies close to home or behind closed doors like last year between the final US tour game and the Fulham match?

We have 2 weeks between the last game in the US and the Fulham opener, with the City game in the middle.

Wonder if he'll want another match to get the full first team/squad able to put anything new from training into practice?

He’s looked good on the rare occasion I’ve seen him.

However RR pointed on another thread that he mussel a lot of football last season with muscle injuries.

A quick wiki search shows he’s only broken 30 games in a season in all comps twice in his career at almost 27 years old.

The last thing we need is another crocked full back so won’t be overly devastated if we miss out here.

Yeah one thing I'd really love to see this year is a settled back 4 getting regular game time together. Would make a massive difference just having Martinez fit for the majority of the season, with Yoro homefully.

If Shaw and Martinez can stay fit, that would make a huge difference to our season.

…….

I watch them because I like to see how the youth players adapt to playing with and against an older age group.

Also it can be a first glimpse of new signings.
