Where are we at?

I thought this was going to be another negative post but I actually agree with most of it.

Gnonto might miss Cree but even if he leaves it won’t be West Ham so why not stay where he’s wanted?

Not sure we need to spend much but another decent midfielder wouldn’t go amiss.

Need another CM, possibly two to cover for injuries, suspension and to get us over 50 games or so. A wide left player like Smozdics or Whittaker for the right side would be terrific. League seems weaker this time, think we'll be top 4 comfortably, hopefully top 2

We have a strong first 11 but after that we are lacking a bit in areas. No reserve left back, no fourth midfielder, another attacking player needed.

On the basis of what we have for me we are a versatile defender light given our injury prone fullbacks in Byram/Firpo.

Personally I think we should enter the loan market
- fullback who can play left of right
- winger who can play left or right
and maybe pick up an experienced centre back on a free who can cover

Goalkeeper
Meslier Darlow Cairns

Fullbacks
Firpo Bogle Byram

Centre Backs
Rodon Striujk Wober

Centre Midfield we have
Ampadu Gruev Rothwell Crew

Centre Attacking Midfield
Rutter Aaronson

Wingers
James Gnonto

Strikers
Bamford Piroe Gelhardt Joseph

I know there ain't many that want to give credit where its deserved, so here goes again!..

I'm happy with what the 49ers have done, they're still in the process of sorting things out but looking at what they've done so far, there is no reason to doubt that they're working behind the scenes to take us further!..

Players they've brought in, nobody here had any idea as to who was coming in last season with the balls that was going on, but didn't they do well, I'm happy knowing Farke is still here and think he and his bosses will no doubt be lining up another someone or two we're not expecting!..

How many here think the players they've brought in haven't done the job they were brought in to do, and done it better than most before they came in?..

Wolves page on twitter saying we've made an official approach for Hugo Bueno of Wolves on loan (Left back)
Celtic been after him for a month or so and Norwich apparently already knocked back by them.

Just read about Bueno too. Also look to be interested in Bobby Clark, Liverpool midfielder

Sara gone to Galatasaray for 15 mill.
So that rumour can be shelved.

We still need a solid left back option.
Byram's glass. If he's the cover for LB & RB
we're already fcked.

Same goes for cover upfront. If Bamford's
seen as the cover to get us through to the
end of the season, we're fcked. Maybe
Joffy steps up? Piroe steps up? Maybe?

We need another CM/midfielder and a CB
on top of LB/RB/CF cover. Otherwise,
we're rinse and repeat of last season.

That said, here we go.

Good summary, Jonty, and welcome back. I was very pleased with our pre-season and looking at the other teams in this division, only Coventry have come close to our level of performance so far.
This season, we should not have to play catch-up for half the season. We look more balanced and even if we lose Gnonto, we have enough depth and versatility to cope. I agree that we need an AM and as usual, a LB, but compared to the rest, we are in great shape. However, if Rutter goes, all bets are off. We have no right to keep him in the Championship, but since he is ours, let's enjoy every moment he is on the pitch.

Well, don't enjoy it too much. We have a full season ahead and we will need your calm words of reason, when the you-know-what hits the fan, as it most certainly will.

Based in that it looks thin. However Wober can cover left back us the kid that came on at RB on Saturday looked half decent.

Amps can cover CB as we know.

Strujik can cover CM.

James, Piroe, Gnonto, Joffy, Aaronson and Rutter can play centre or wide.

We are lightweight up top with Bamford, Piroe and Joseph though.

Are you talking James Debayo, Stoopo?

He is primarily a centre back for the U21's, it's difficult to judge how he got on last year from my armchair as a lot of their games clashed with Premier League games and therefore LUTV only showed highlights. When I saw him, his performances were patchy some good, some not so. But he's young and you'd expect that.
He's had a good pre-season and hasn't looked out of his depth but I wonder if right back is his position.

If we had a large enough squad, which we don't, a season out on loan would benefit him.

I have a question about DeBayo, his contract seems to have lapsed, anybody any idea what the state of play is?

What about that Monteiro lad we signed in January 2023? Was captain of Portugal's U19's when he joined, would have thought he'd be closer to featuring.

Apparently we have bid 7m for Jonathan Rowe from Norwich. Looks decent.

People are mentioning Reuben Lopata-White more favourably I think, he's a bit younger and home grown but I've read good things.

Yes him. Looked decent but it was a strange second half.

Hi Jonty hope you’re well.

We look short still, Summerville replacement, creative midfielder and a left back, although Farke seems happy with Firpo with Byram as back up.

Might not have the competition too 3 was last season, but you never know in the champ, who knew Ipswich would be as strong.

Fabrizio Romano reporting that we will be moving pretty quickly on Jonny Rowe, Wolves apparently have shown a little interest but that's as far as it goes.
He's not happy at Norwich I read and in the final year of his contract and would be interested in a move to Elland Road, £7m isn't that far from what Norwich will accept for him.
One down side in signing him is that there have been concerns raised over recent injuries.
