Solanke

We had Norwich, Millwall and Leicester fans telling us the same about Harry Kane.

Iraola tweaked the tactics to suit Solanke last year and the result was a great season. I am hoping beyond hope that we have a plan on how to use him effectively.

The guy will be an asset anyway, he is a top presser, Aerially strong, great at holding up play and has a bit of speed. If he stays fit then it’s an improvement on the first 11

find the way people talk about Solanke in comparison to Toney incredibly odd, have people actually looked at their goal scoring records?

I think Toney maybe being the best penalty taker in the world makes people think he's more of a goal threat in open play than he actually is

An argument I've often used when some of our fans have been crying out for us to buy him.

If we can sell Richy for a similar amount, then i'll be happy. I just don't see who else we can get.

Personally id prefer to have both.

If we’re selling Richy then it has to be Solanke and Neto/Eze

Yes, agreed. I think we need to get Eze.

My big concern going into the new season is Maddison. Apart from the first 10 games of last season, he was really poor. Hasn't really cut it in pre-season either.

I hope this is the case....... Bergvall, Gray, Solanke & Net/Eze would represent an excellent window and would be a big improvement on our starting 11.

Id like to see Johnson and Werner off the bench... I think their pace later in games as legs are tiring is a massive strength. Id also like to see Kulu come of the bench to play in a more central area. He's strong, good technically and has eye for a goal. I think he's wasted out wide. He has no pace and he's too predictable/ one footed. I think he's better centrally where he will have more options for his good passing range.

Would love to get a few quid for GLC & Royal to help pay for this !!!!

Eze seems pretty unlikely now Palace have sold Olise and seemingly Guehi for big money

Neto I think is one that could happen

Just have to hope that he has finally found his feet as a PL striker. If he had shown great form all this time, then let's be honest, he'd be out of our reach and someone else would have snapped him up.

It's not like we should be pinning our hopes on a new striker to be the sole difference for us anyway I suppose. I mean he could be but we have quality in the squad where we should be expecting other players to step up. Kulu, BJ, Richy and Maddison need to be doing more this season.

Not 100% sure about Solanke and £65m seems extortionate but I guess most transfer fees are theses days.

If it happens and goes through lets get behind the lad. He's a decent player and may work wonders for us and improve rapidly as a player himself along the way.

Agreed.. Bayern were smart getting Olise early knowing Palace were unlikely to sell both. Guehi's move in probably on the back of a really good Euro's (They probably weren't planning on selling but the cash is too good to turn down.

I did hear this am that Wilf Zaha is looking for a way out of Turkey.... Would be great if he went back to Palace, possibly re-opening the door for us to get Eze but like you id be delighted with Neto.... Cracking player

they were saying that about a 19-21 yr old Kane, Solanke is 26.

He is not the man to take Spurs to the next level .... not a chance.

Solanke was class last season. Think he's a step up from Richarlison. Really flourished under the new Bournemouth coach who has a similar style.

There may well be some hidden gems available in Europe but don't think we'd get a better prem based striker than Solanke.

We had Kane the past decade before last season and even he wasn't enough to take us to that next level much of the time. It will take more than just a prolific striker.

Toney must be after silly money. He would cause havoc up front for the opposition with his physicality. I know it sounds stupid, but Toneys goals wouldn't be the main reason I'd buy him, it is the effect his presence would have on the team around him. Don't see that with Solanke.

Ange isn't a stupid man. He must be aware of what these strikers can bring to the table and I cannot believe he wouldn't have some input into who we buy.

no their new signing Thiago is injured until January so they now apparently want to keep Toney

Solanke is similar, not quite as good as Toney in that department but Bournemouth played the 2nd most long passes in the league last season behind Dyche's Everton. they wouldn't have have a good season if he wasn't a good target man

If you think Solanke is someone that takes you forward then fair enough. he is a decent EPL striker no more IMO. I think Spurs should be aiming for a better level of player.

for eg off the top of my head for that kinda money you could have gotten Guirassay 3 times. Luis Openda would cost about an extra 5m. it would also get you Gyokeres easily, IMO they are all levels above Solanke for far less money or about the same price

posted on 8/8/24

you only think that because they don't play in the PL

posted on 8/8/24

Surely Levy isn't going to dump £65m on Solanke, £30m would be a fair price even if we should be making mid table signings like this, which we shouldn't. Varpool got rid of him for a reason, if Levy pays £65m he is more useless than I gave him credit for.

Eze has a release clause. If that's hit and he wants to go then he goes no matter who else they sell.

No I think that through watching them plenty of times. Im goinjg outwith the EPL cos you end up paying about twice the price for EPL players which is the exact point im making.

I think Solanke is a good striker, at least from what he showed last season. He is not world class but he might not necessarily have to be. Someone that can offer extra quality in the box is fine for now. If we want to compete with the likes of Arsenal and City then we'll need more from everyone. The defence for one is going to have to be far less leaky. Arsenal have no top quality strikers either but get by with other strengths in their team.
