£65m is hilarious.
Should be an improvement on Richarlison, though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
compared to the fee for Anthony it sounds like a bargain
less than the release clause apparently and wont be all upfront
look at fridge yesterday on the transfer thread, writes a soliloquy about how the Emerson Royal deal falling through is the final nail in the coffin for the club, proving that Levy's penny pinching is holding us back and any ambitions we once had are dead.
all because of a faaacking report from talksport, and now less then 24 hours later Fabrizio Romano has given Royal to AC Milan the here we go ffs

regardless it wont be £65m upfront be some weird payment structure
reason why we stopped pursuing Eze cause need to pay Palace £60m up front release clause
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are massively lowering our expectations from even a month ago then.
It was Toney and Eze and possibly Neto. Now it’s thankful for Solanke - who now turns into the guy we wanted for ages and is perfect for the system and Ange really wants him.
This signing, I guess like most signings, is a massive gamble. I really hope he works out for us but really is a punt in my eyes.
Really want him to be a success.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is true.
Not completely against the signing but Toney is a much better player and by all accounts, woulda been cheaper.
Also, just like richarlison and brennan johnson, how are we finding this sort of money for average players, but when it comes to the real marquee signings, we can’t find the money? Couldn’t we spend this amount on Eze/Neto? Personally, id rather we have richarlison + neto RW than solanke + johnson RW
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about Solanke and Neto RW?
Let's see what happens before wetting the bed.
Spurs fans complain that we haven't made signings, then complain when we do make one because it's 'not the right one'.
I personally disagree Toney is a better player, certainly in terms of what we need, but that's subjective admittedly. I also would prefer not to have someone who's that much of ain our team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who is wetting the bed??
Does feel like thats a new phrase that a few of you have discovered and love shouting, even when thats not happening.
I’m not complaining about the transfer, it is a very short critique and an expression of preference between 2 hypotheticals. Stop wetting the bed when other fans don’t jump unequivocally for joy with every signing.

Happy with this - stats match what we’re looking from a striker, he fits the system perfectly. Quite excited about him and Richy rotating - that’s decent depth in my opinion with Lankshear being the young back up,
If we can add Neto/Eze then we should be good for maintaining our position 4-6th this season. Hopefully go for it in the cups
----------------------------------------------------------------------
4th to 6th.I’d rather not maintain. We need higher.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just being realistic, we won’t touch Arsenal, City or Liverpool - so do not expect higher than 4th. I think we’re better than United and Chelsea but both are capable of having good seasons.
Should be above Villa and Newcastle
So 4-6th - if we attack the cups properly then I won’t schitt the bed
why have Liverpool earned that right? Slots a real wait and see imo
Would be more worried about Newcastle than I am then, they'll bounce back now they're out of europe again

well who is proven quality? if we were spending more on someone abroad you'd be saying the same thing, big gamble who knows how it'll translate etc
if we paid less for someone people would be complaining about the money spent

Good to get some strength in this area. Maybe we could have got other positions sorted but you can't say we haven't been spending money lately between this and last summer. On paper I'd say it's our best, most established striker signing since probably Soldado.

On paper I said. Soldado was a flop and a disaster but at the time we were getting a 59 goals in 101 games striker from a decent La Liga side. Solanke probably not even that good, on paper. But more worthy than others we've splashed money on since who have come from weaker leagues or are just fringe quality.
I don't normally like signing players his age but I do think it's probably for the best that we're picking up one of these types each season if all our other transfers are in that 18-22 range
Maddison last season, Solanke this one - makes sense to support that youth with some proven PL talent. not making the same mistake Chelsea are doing
