Solanke The Next Brennan Johnson?

Nope. From memory he was top goalscorer at the u20 World Cup, for England, whilst at Chelsea. Liverpool brought him in and I believe the fee was decided at tribunal. He just didn't get the opportunity at Liverpool but I felt when he did play, he was decent and remember he was still very young. I believe before he left Chelsea he went to Netherlands and scored a few at a young age.

He scored a load in the Championship when Liverpool sold him and of course scored a load in the PL last season.

I don't think he's a £65m player but Kane did similar things at a young age. He'll never reach Kane's all round play but I think he'll get you goals.

Personally I think he'll be a good signing. He's good at holding the ball, good in the air and of course a threat in the box.

One must hope he's a new Harry Kane, but I doubt it.
Certainly striker was one position we need to strengthen.

But our midfield is shaky, and must also get a strong incoming for this season. Can't continue to depend on Maddison.

Got to give him a chance. Hopefully he’ll hit 20 goals

I think he'll be a bit like the Havertz to Arsenal signing. Good signing but a little overpriced.

Is it realistic though to expect upgrades on last seasons's upgrades?

Let's not forget that for the first half of the season Maddison was excellent. And I suppose Johnson showed some improvements.

Massive gamble with only one good season under his belt, he`s worth a punt but it`s a shame we are paying £40m too much for him

If by last season's upgrades you mean Maddison......
well he was a Levy Cheapo that nobody else wanted.
And he's over the hill....as you will soon see for yourself.

This club needs a new owner which ambition.

Isn’t the fee 55 million plus 10 add ons? Rumoured anyway

We have no idea what the add ons are so they may never be met ….you value him at 15 million?

Transfer fees are ridiculous now for sure but you don’t actually think that?

Ted needs no help in looking stupid..

Worst type of Spurs fan...thinks 40mnis a 'cheapo' signing no grasp on reality whatsoever.

He said the same thing when we went for mega cheapo Vicario. And no doubt labels Udogie and Sarr as the same. As for Bergvall at 8m, who Barca and Bayern wanted, tight f!sted Levy should have paid 55m for the lad to keep Ted happy

Yep

He will get goals with the way we play and he can hold the ball up which should keep some pressure off the defence

Bottom line is he is an upgrade and ticks lots of boxes

I agree. His pressing was great, statistically the best as a forward in the PL last season. Good movement and finisher, good in the air which will.help us vs the low press and at set pieces too. Good hold up play and will.bring others in. Decent pace..I think he will bring a lot to our system

It is a bit too much. I would have liked a 2nd PL season out of him first but if he scored 20+ again for Bournemouth then the fee would.be another 20m.

Also home grown, so counts in our PL squad as such.

Hey Willy

Here is a Solanke comp

https://x.com/HugoFilmz28/status/1821961027132797369?t=vTw6Q6aDyOhOoGBNqEsKjQ&s=19

The tune is background is by Nas and he says the word 'arabics' at one point. Hope you don't get too offended as I know you once said 'Labour's manifesto was written in arabic.'

Up the Spurs mate!

OP...why you writing off Johnson as some sort of rubbish benchmark.

Young, 22, first season at Spurs who are rebuilding and the guy got 10 assists (3rd best in the league) and 5 goals in 24 PL starts (35 apps). A goal contribution every 155 minutes (1.7 games). It's a decent start to his career in the circumstances. Yes he needs to continue to improve and you'd expect 10-12 goals but at least give him a chance before writing him off as a failure against which other signings will be measured.

Solanke was this summer

So all on Ange now 👍

I made this comparison, not going to be one of the best strikers in the world but the kind of well rounded player that can help get you to the level where you can attract that next tier of talent

5 goals and 10 assists as a 22 year old, only a year older than Sarr and Udogie who everyone is happy to call young players. That's already a better return than Lennon ever managed for us for example
