I really don't know why not? CCV was punted out on loan 6 times and struggling to break through to the first team. There must be any number of players in that kind of situation not just in England. What Celtic can offer is pretty unique and it was good to see us push the boat out. For his part he seems settled with his lot here and I can see him opting to stay beyond his current deal. We must have a list of names with guys like him on it? Down to the scouting team then the CEO to get it over the line.
BTW, I don't think Lawwell is exercising executive power over transfers. However, I do think his presence and influence are overarching on his erstwhile direct report who might be intimidated by that mere presence without having to say anything but knowing what PLs' fiscal philosophy is.

Oh absolutely, I just meant I wasn't necessarily expecting us to sign another CCV quality-wise ... let's face it, anybody half as good would be an upgrade on our other CB options.
As for our financial restrictions, we've known since May that we've a huge wedge secured from the CL, albeit the final sum will be determined by whether or not Rangers join us. Yet here we are in mid-August and we haven't signed a single new outfield player? In fact, 2 strikers down on last season as things stand. It's absolutely mental, when we only have one fecking striker in the squad (an injury-prone, misfiring one), and one LB (who's utter gash) ... oh, and a massive OF game in less than 3 weeks. Those critical recruitment decisions surely don't need to wait to see how much we punt MOR for?

Nothing's won in Sept, but you can set down a marker. I'd rather go into big games prepared as best we can be, when there's absolutely no reason why that can't be the case. Lost count of the number of CL qualies we've fooked by being totally unprepared. Also, while our OF results were fine last season, our performances in those games were anything but convincing for the most part. Again, I'd like us to address that. Clearly ain't happening though, so Taylor & Scales it will undoubtedly be ... and no actual DM for the inevitable midfield battle.

I hope so and I am not saying we couldnt have a good day and pull off a shock whilst celtic have a bad day.
But realistically we still need 4 or 5 new starting players....not better back ups like celtic maybe need. Actual starting players to replace the ones I mentioned above.
Then we need better squad players to provide competition and elevate performances.
Barron has looked bright since he came in and for me he was a no brainer as a squad player. But we need better quality for the starting eleven and the challenge should be for guys like Barron to raise their game even further.
It says whole lot about where we are that Barron has come in and is currently a cert to start every week. We dont have any other real fit options.

The board will be puking at spending that. The Thing is, with our cash, we should be signing two players of this value every season. The board still think they should be spending 1990 values.

Not sure about that. Think Norwich stuck the price up very early doors. fwiw I think it’s way too much and wonder what the fwck our scouting team are doing not to appear to have any viable alternatives when the price went to this level.
